Baby Born Procedures & Birth Certificates Documents

Dear All,

What are the documents' procedures when a baby is born in Thailand? For example, preparation of Birth Certificates, name of Father, Mother, etc.

I have an issue here cos' I am already married in my own country and my G/F in Thailand is pregnant. What should I do? :)

Cheers!

Fried Perry.

Being married doesn't matter regarding bc, just be sure that you register the birth at the ampur and do NOT let the hospital do it

And prepair the spelling of your own name in Thai, as Thai birth certificates tend to be in Thai.

Registration of the birth has to be done within 15 days at the amphur where the child is born. Do it together with the mother and let you be the person who registered the birth and ask to legitimize the child. They might be willing to legalize you, otherwise you need to go to court.

Thanks, Mario.

Ok, noted about the 15 days duration. When at the amphur, is it required to show our marriage cert (which obviously I dont have it)? Am wondering how the other guys do it.

Cheers!

No need to show a marriage certificate, in Thailand many people only have a wedding ceremony and are not legally married. You just show up with the paper from the hospital that a child ws born and your own ID papers and the misses household book might be handy to register the child on there.

I don't think that my wife and I showed our marriage registration when we got our sons Thai BC. To be on a Thai BC is relatively easy. We did have to show our Marriage registration when we got our sons US passport and US Birth abroad consular certificate.

Unfortunately, this will not even be a remote option for you since you are still legally married in your home country.

chok dee, jing jing as you will need it! :)
