Received by some friends of mine in the UK:

From: Patrick Udem

January 2010

Bangkok.

My name is Patrick Udem from the Republic of Sierra Leone, l am the first son of Mr. Silver Udem who was a top manager in the Central Bank of Sierra Leone. My late father was kidnapped by the rebels on the day they attacked our capital city ( Freetown) looting and destroying government offices, although he was later rescued by the soldiers, he latter died of injuries he sustained.

Due to his position, he was able to secure some reasonable amount of money ( $11.5m) which he deposited in a private financial house in Thailand after visited Thailand on tourist. The officials of the private financial house have no idea that this is money because my late father registered the consignment box as a (family Diamond). Now after his burial, my family decided to leave the country for two reasons; one for our safety and also to find a way of properly securing this funds and then investing it in viable business ventures, hence l am writing you.

I will therefore like you to help me in every possible way in securing this money in your country; you will also assist me in finding a good business I will invest on. In view of your participation, I have made up my mind to give you 20% of this money. You will be required to come to Bangkok for a meeting with me if possible or we find the best alternative by which these fund can be secure without any problem ; this will give us the chance to know each other better before this money will be moved to your country. if you have any question do not hesitate to include same in your reply.

You will do well to reply this mail to [email protected] or you give me a call +xxxxxxxx

Best regards

Patrick Udem.

Having called him, he's rather less keen in handing the cash over.... :)

But give him a call - it'll make his day!

It's pretty well known that these scum are now operating in Bangkok, along with a number of their other associates in and around Sukhumvit. However, it seems that it is something that is rather taboo to discuss. :)

Seeing as contact details have been removed, its possible to meet these people in person.

They operate from a piece of prime real estate in central Bangkok, right outside Foodland in Suk soi 5, best time to pop in for a chat would appear to be any time after eight o clock in the evening.

If not available outside Foodland they are usually to be found in their unofficial headquarters, a quaint watering hole just across the road.

they are operating on tagged(a social networking site) too, looking for single women as their prey and using UK phone numbers They make them believe to look for serious relationship, even cry on the phone, arranging money for to buy a house, send them copies of certificates(falsified, photo-shopped, from a reputable company) via email of money deposited for the "new bride" (usually 300,000 USD- as next of kin and that he will be coming to Thailand in a month therefore he sends some luggage in advance via Malaysia in advance. Then they get a phone call from there(Malaysia) to pay for the shipping of a gift luggage from Malaysia to Thailand (590USD) to a Western Union ID.

They have all kinds of stories up their sleeves, like going to church every Sunday, visiting their mothers every weekend and so forth, introducing themselves as CEO of RealGemsInternational (you can lookup the website, it expires on the 26th this month, lol.

PS: and the receivers name on Western Union sounds everything else than Christian. More like Muslim names.

How do we know that 419 of them have relocated to Bangkok? Who counted them? :D

Simon

how can it not be true when posted in Thaivisa? :)

At least if they are operating out of Thailand they could have changed it to "I am Thaksin's son and my dad needs to move some money..........."

:):D :D

They were using Thaksin in their email scams a couple years ago, I'd be surprised if they still aren't

would be good if the thai police arrange a meeting and take them all to jail....

we have a few in our condo on the outskirts of bkk, actually seen them using tagged many times in the local internet shop. One day I peeked over and saw the sob story. I know the Thai residents can't stand them and (nothing racist intended) break in's have happened recently and I caught one of these people having a go at my locks.

So serious question, how would a person go about reporting these guys to the Immigration authorities, I would have no qualms about it at all. Several are also working illegally on the street selling clothes and food, also pissing off Thais, but they will do nothing up to now.

The number "419" refers to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code (part of Chapter 38: "Obtaining Property by false pretences; Cheating")

Mahtin, I was actually exercising my dry wit, a trait of many English people, but which is sadly often misunderstood by those who have not benefited from a grammar school education :)

That is a very good question. So many times you hear about the "I'm gonna get you deported" threat. What would it take to actually get these crfiminals picked up and kicked out? I don't understand how they get let in in thew first place.

So these "gentlemen" are also moving to the suburbs? Dammit. I saw an African walking around Chok Chai 4 a few weeks ago. I kept wondering, How did he get there?

My wife thinks these Africans are scary looking. I agree.

These people come to Thailand to make their scams sound more plausible, now that the word "Nigeria" stinks in so many nostrils. To say the charity office (for donations to Haiti, for example) is located in Bangkok rather than Lagos, gets a better response.

This is a billion-dollar business, and the only reason that they are permitted to freely carry on this business in BKK is that they are paying protection cash to the BiB. The scammers were brought up in Lagos, where everything is predicated on bribery, so setting up shop in Thailand is child's play for them.

These are potentially violent people, so best not personally approached (another no-go area in LoS), the best thing you can do is warn your friends and relatives worldwide about these scams at ScamWarners or 419 Eater.

These people are deliberately diverting aid cash meant for starving victims of the Haiti earthquake, just as they used fake websites to divert money away from victims of the Boxing Day tsunami; there are no depths of human misery they will not exploit in order to put money into their own pockets.

I urge all of you to do something to fight these scum.

It's about time the BIB did a sweep around lower Sukhumvit - shouldn't be to difficult to pick a few of the dodgy ones out. 3, 5 and 13 spring to mind.

Probably 99% of these scums are concentrated on the Nana, Sukhumvit Soi 4 area.

Would be nice for the thai Police to do a clean-up in that area. But don't they do so?

One time one nigga approached me around Nana as I was walking home and said: "You want some???" I just laughed and walked away.. Lol :)

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.
