"Allegedly the gathered crowd around the incident, numbering up to 10 people, then proceeded to assault Mr. Zoltan whilst he had been knocked to the ground by the boxer."

A 'tap dancing' group who were staying at the hotel whilst on tour put on an impromptu performance for the assembled crowd.

Why is it so often Russians that are behaving badly and unrespectful?

We were at one of those restaurants at the very south end of Jomtien last week. Having dinner at a table on the sidewalk facing the sea. Beautiful evening, just saw the sun set and now enjoying our food.

Down the sidewalk comes some very large guy holding a beer bottle. I was in mid-swig, so happened to salute the guy. He walked over to our table and gestured he wanted to open his beer. He was clearly drunk, but no biggie. I indicated I did not have an opener. He proceeded to reach onto my plate to grab my fork or spoon.

I grabbed his hand and pushed him away. He tried to grab it again and I jumped up and dang near pushed him to the ground. He was yelling something and still trying to grab my spoon. Guess he wanted to use it to open his beer. Well, screw him. I am in the middle of dinner and eating with that spoon!

The Thai staff quickly disappeared. I yelled "nong! nong!"....none to be seen. The drunk guy finally kept walking. A waiter came up and asked what happened. I told my wife to tell him he was a gai. Too chicken to help. They appologized....

Then, the bloke came back! And was saying something and giving me hand gestures. I flew the bird to him and h

Another interesting aspect of this story is the convention in some of Pattaya's news organisations, especially PDN, which I think is now the best here, by the way, not to refer to the names of hotels in some of their articles.

They reported about the Brit attempting suicide in a room "on the third floor of the hotel (name with held)", although Howard's P1N report mentioned it was the Penthouse, and here, where a crazed Russkie "had assaulted a security guard in a popular hotel in the area"

Both P1N and PDN reported that a Russian National had leapt off the 16th floor of the Ambassador Hotel and the Swedish jump/fall death occured at the Royal Twin Palace Hotel, so why is it that some hotels are able to keep their names out of the media?

Or is that a silly question?

Simple. They have no upbringing and no manners whatsoever. Never had. but now when they have money, they think that they are kings of the world. When they are just trash.

Albeit there are russians who behave. It is just that they do not seem to come to Thailand.

Hey replying to my own post. How sad is that. - In PPN it HINTS at the name of the hotel in the Russian smashup - "Pattaya Police were notified ....that a Russian tourist was attacking guests and staff at a well known sports club and hotel on North Road.

Fairtex? would explain the prescence of the Muay Thai guy as well, and the PDN report above, described him as: believed to be a well-known boxer at the Fairtex Muay Thai Boxing Stadium

Dunno why they just can't name the hotel.

Scared or what?

^ Because in all practicality, nobody really gives a toss... unless you are in the small group of social misfits that want to sleep in the Carradine Room at the Swissôtel Nai Lert Park, etc..

The point I was making was why some hotels are named in bad news reports and some aren't.

(And I booked the Carradine room solely for research purposes.)

In that case, I reckon that the spurious omission of hotel names in news reports is attributable to the poor hacks sent to cover the story, their inability to gather the salient details coupled with a poor of command of the Queen's English as she is wrote.

(They changed the Carradine room number y'know)
