tigerbeer
Dear TV friends, I have always found the Honda service centers to provide parts and service and reasonable prices. Well it had come to my 100k mileage service and i had asked numerous times about changing the spark plugs and they have always replied with, it would be done come 100k mileage as according to the service booklet. I should have changed them earlier cause they were totally warned out. Especially since i have an NGV kit powering the car with higher octane levels. I feel they should be changed perhaps every 20k mileage? Not sure. Anyways the price: THB570 per piece without labour costs (Total of 2,280 Baht). I had asked them the price before but was thinking that since its only done every 100k of mileage, it must be some sort of special plug with gold coating or something of that sort!. Picked up the car after the service and as they did leave the used parts for the owner to have a look at, i saw 4 pieces of regular spark plugs. The same kind I have seen forever. I took those plugs to my regular car parts/accesories shop and she quoted me 75 Baht for it, a piece. WHAT? 300 baht total? Well the size the plugs were exactly the same and both were made by NGK and original. Only thing different was the model number of it. On one side it says 11R on the plugs provided by Honda and the other one was just 11. That might be the size? Another number on the other side were not similar. The one by Honda was IZFR6K and the one sold by the shop something else (can't recall). They assured me that the ones they sell are genuine NGK and can be used for Honda Civic 06 onwards model. Many of their customers use it. So whats the extra 1980 baht for? There can't possible be such a big difference in the price of a spark plug of 75 Baht as opposed to one that costs 570 Baht? I feel cheated but perhaps I should have found out more about it before going ahead with the change at Honda. Any input especially from any Honda Civic Owners? TB.. mortenaa
You think all spark plugs actually cost 75 baht? A quick google search reveals a webshop selling หัวเทียน IZFR6K (not branded Honda though) for 1,040.00 Baht. With Honda branding on them, and Honda markup, that seems like a very reasonable price for me..
tigerbeer
Mortenaa, Yeah ! lol. sorry for the thread. Well at least now i know the price difference between an Iridium Laser Plug and a regular copper one. Actually I checked a lot of sites and they average about USD12 a piece. x4, that makes it approximately THB1700. So i guess its alright Well at least now i know! and many other curious people like me.
