my new place has no covered parking,

i have a tiny car,peugeot 205 and a tiny parking space by a wall.

the peugeots dashboard was broken from being parked in the sun ,before i bought it,

i got it glued back together but it's very fregile,

what to do,

are those covers you can buy any good, they look like they just protect the paint from discolouring

but dont keep the car cool,

also these tent like things you can buy dont look very effective, maybe i'm wrong,

it would also have to be exactly the same size as the car or i would block the walkway into the building.

another idea i have would be to make a shelter with these premade woven sheets of bamboo,

any advice on the effectiveness of the products you can buy or how to make a cheap shelter would be much apprechiated.

thanks

^I was going to suggest the same, but not as extravegant as BSJ has depicted.

Using the wall you may be able to have a little shelter knocked up using canvas and stuff, asuming that its not your place and you dont want to spend the $$$$ on well built accomodation.

If you are staying at a condo or room somewhere and you build a shelter, is there anything stopping another resident using your space? Just a thought.

I remember seeing carpet like cover over dashboards in Australia. I am sure you will find them also in Thailand, maybe a little difficult for a 205 thought.

I think anything that protects the dashboard fro direct sunlight is ok.

totster :)

Why don't you put a simple towel over your dashboard, during parking? If you want a dasboard cover for a Peugeot, go see a upholstery guy and they will custom made one for you. They done one as well for my US Car. Cost approx 300 to 500 Baht.

An awning would be the best idea, however a dashboard cover would help even when you drive and park elsewhere. I've always bought them and never really found them to reduce heat, the dash gets hot, just prevents fading and cracking. The biggest difference will be the quality of your window film, and I've always found the bottles of French-made 'Waxy' Leather and Vinyl Polish work great as they are UV protectant for all interior plastics.

thanks for all the quick replies,

an awning using the wall seems to be the answer,

whats the cheapest material i can get away with, that doesn't look too uglt,

it must look presentable and be no wider than the car

because it's right on the walk way into the building.

you can get those woven sheets of bamoo made to measure

cheep and chearfull,

have seen brown tarpollen which might look o.k with bamboo poles,

we shal see,

thanks again

The cheapest i think would be that black plastic mesh used for shading orchids and the like. Some blue plastic tubing, some string and a couple of small water bottle full of water and you are done. :) Also reflective windshield/windscreen shades are available everywhere, as are side window shades.

As suggested if the dash shows the repaired crack get a carpet dash cover made.
