When you get a Thai driver lincense you need a form with your current address on it. First option I believe is to go to your embassey and fill out a form that you say you live at XYZ and give them money, I believe there is another free option by the Thai Gov that takes 3 weeks, I not in Bangkok and am trying to find out how to do this?

Thanks

The other option is going to your regional immigration office for a letter of residence. Believe you must do 90 day reports for this. The letter is free according to the rules, but some offices seem to ask for money never the less.

Call your immigration office to see what they require and if they will do it.

Here they send me on a runaround.. acting like they never heard of it. In the end i came back to them and then suddenly they knew what i was talking about (had my thai wife with me so it was not a language problem).

Lost a day went to city hall.. an other immigration office that told me they should have it but they could not give it to me because i did my 90 day reporting at the other office. So when i came back they still did not understand me just minutes before closing magically the pre printed papiers appeared and a week later i could pick it up. So they knew all along just did not want to do it.

Not on Samui, you just show tell them your address and hand over 500 baht and photos.

If you own property you can use your house book, alternatively you can use a copy of your lease - if you do the latter you MAY also need to show a copy of the ID card of the house owner whose name appears on the lease.

This is the old form you used to fill out at Suan Plu Immigrations.

They would mail you the residence certificate via EMS about a week later. (yes there was a small fee for this.)

Even people I took down there who just had a business card of their apartment complex were issued the certificates, so I believe the bar is quite low on vetting if you actually do reside there or not.

I don't know if it’s the current form being used at Changwattana or not.

I know the US Embassy issues the residence certificates for 1020baht at the ACS office in Bangkok. ..

I managed to obtain this letter from my local Amphur with the minimum of fuss and at no cost. However not all will be so helpful!

Take a Thai with you, offer a gratuity and be polite. I had no problem in Ubon. I brought a Monk friend.
