A few pages of my passport got a bit wet and those few pages look a bit crumbled. The ink is a bit washed out from a few stamps, but only a bit. The first page with passport photo is still completely intact.

Is this an issue for immigration officers ?

It could be as any such damage can make it invalid and they are the judge. Best to replace the passport before it becomes an issue.

I have had a passport for 6 years now where some of the pages got wet and all the gold from the front is gone. i.e. you can't see the crest and it just looks like a maroon book.

It has never caused me any problem, though they do look at it a bit funny.

It depends if the stamps inside have been rendered unreadable, particularly any Thai ones as they need to work out when you have been in the country if they are going to grant a visa waiver.

To my humble opinion, as far as the first page (with id & pic) and the pages with the last -current- visa and entry stamp are intact, I should not be a problem.

Murphy's law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

Get a new passport before it becomes an issue is still my advice - you may go without a problem - or you may have a problem at the most inconvenient moment. The cost of a passport would be well worth it in that case.

I decided to change mine ( a U.K. passport )

The stamps had run and certain ones could have been considered difficult to read / interpret.

If you get an awkward officer then it could be a problem down the road.

If your is the same country please look at the following thread and post 27 onwards regarding my scenario, and a successful outcome.

As said, it can be a problem and would be up to the immirgaiton officer to accept the passport or not. it is not very convenient to be denied entry into a country, or even been denied boarding. A new one is the best advice.

Regardles of the fact that the ID page s intact, immigraiton officers also like to have a look at the stamps in your passport to see here you have been and if you have been denied entry into a country. It can make them very suspicious.

It may be an issue with the new biometric type passports. Although the e passports also have a data code page they do have that little imbedded chip. Now I know people will swear that those chips are impregnable, but all you need is that 1 in a million chip with the coating deficiency that gets exposed to salty water or chemical residue. I'd go for a new document.
