Hi there,

Im flying into Bangkok on the 28th May 2010 and staying there for only a few nights. I am then travelling through cambodia, vietnam and loas and then back into the north of thailand from loas around about the 22nd-24th June 2010. I will then be in thailand until the 2nd-3rd July before moving on to Malaysia and then flying home from Singapore. I am a UK passport holder. I understand that normally you are allowed 30 days in Thailand and must have a ticket out of the country (which i dont as i am travelling home from singapore). Since I am exiting then re-entering, travelling around the surrounding countries (cambodia, vietnam and loas) will i need a visa?

Thanks for your time, James

Yes, otherwise the airline might not take you. Advise you to get a tourist visa from the consulate in Hull to avoid any problem. Note that entering by land you will only get 15 days, not 30.

It would seem that as you're only in Thailand for a few days for stage one, and then back on 22nd June for less than two weeks, that a 30 day visa exemption when you fly in, and a 15 day (or 30 if you fly back from Laos) permission to stay should be okay, with no need for a visa before you get on the plane.

22nd of June is usually around the Solstice, and expect it to be rather a warm time of the year. Happy Travels.

Oops! Yes sorry. The airline could be a problem. Mario is correct as always.

Thanks very much guys. What sort of tourist visa is required. sorry for my ignorance. I am very confused by it all. Do i need a 60 day visa? and why hull not london?

A tourist visa is a tourist visa and will give you 60 days. You need it as without a visa you need proof in the form of an airticket out of the country.

Hull is prefered as they are very friendly, emabssies tend to be more strict and more unfriendly. You can apply by mail at Hull.

Tourist visa's will be free from April 1st, but they might charge an administrative fee.

A 60 day visa and you can get at any Consulate - but London would have to be done in person I believe - rather than by mail at other places.

Thanks for your help! i really do appreciate it. So with the 60 day tourist visa i can enter and leave the country and renter. Fantastic. I leave for my travels to Fiji on the 18th April so i don't think i will have time to wait until the 1st april. or will I?

No. It is a single entry visa for your trip here and first entry only. Your later entries can be made using visa exempt entry of 15 days by land or 30 days by air as local transportation will not be checking for onward travel within 30 days as the airline from Europe often does.

ahhh, that comment has confused me again. I am entering the country twice, so thought i would need double entry? So you are saying that i need a 60 day tourist visa for my initially entry via my flight into thailand. Then when i renter i will not need a visa? I feel so stupid right now :)

Yes. Obtain single entry tourist visa and use for first entry. Then use 'visa exempt' entry for second visit (no visa required) as within region.
