Power Steering Pump

Featured Replies

I am in need of a Power Steering Pump for my 2.3 Audi A6..

Wondered if there was any other make of car Power Steering Pump that will fit ?

Appears there is no Power Steering Pump in Thailand, VAG Thailand have a service kit only,

Feel sure there must be other makes of cars with the same unit ?

How critical is it? Has it died completely? Or just leaking a bit? If the latter please wait to get the proper pump you will open a can of worms for yourself and lower your cars value, just put in fluid on occasion until the new one comes in...

I can tell you from personal experience that a common tactic here is to tell you that "no one else has it" (if you didn't already know that?) to keep you coming back, I never take that at FACE value here and always end up finding what I was looking for somewhere else, so shop around..

I can't stand to see someone downgrade the manufacturers product especially in such a quality high end vehicle you're just setting yourself up for more lost money and heart break down the road if it's just a matter of patience.

*edit* having said that I will say this though, Audi and VW share a ton of parts and it is quite possible that another VW may share this pump or some thing of equal quality and design so that is an another option for looking if you can get the technician to be creative enough to understand your intentions..

Yes it died completely all the fluid poured out…

Took it to a friend of a friend in BKK his afternoon, he looked and said he can refurbish it with help from a VW part he has in his workshop. With a 1yr warranty + total cost will be under 4,000 baht… VAG wanted almost 7,000 just for the gasket set without the ‘No Have’ part which is broken..

Yes know Audi and VW lots of parts are the same, but wondered about the Volvo which also I believe used the same engine used the same type of steering pump, as loads here.

P.S was a little worried about going into BKK this afternoon, no idea why the roads were empty, never driven the 50km to BKK so fast + no traffic in BKK at all

Yeah it was even eerily quiet in my Moo Baan here in Bangkok very few roving vendors making all that noise and it seems many of the neighbors went upcountry or something to family homes, had I known it would be that quite on the roads I would have driven just to enjoy it. Good to hear you've found an alternative so it is still functional and not locked up it just hemorrhaged the fluid? That does give it possibilities for saving but Volvo's are not Audi engines they are/were in house Volvo engineered Fords so I don't know where you had heard that info but beyond that I'm not sure about the power steering pump in that application.

OK, I just felt sure the Volvo 850, Passat and Audi were the same engine

I know that the Volvo 850 Turbo D was the Audi engine.. Volvo Wikipedia 'The Audi 5-sylinder TDI was used by Volvo and mounted transversly in the 850 series.'

I owned a 240 D5 in Portugal years ago, and was told when the 850 came out in D5, that they used the Audi TDi engine

Got from a old Volvo 850 Forum 'The Volvo 5-cylinder engine was designed in 1992 in conjecture with Porsche, which VW AG owns'

Yes I know when Ford took over Volvo they then used the Ford engine + many other Ford parts

Volvo and Audi are complete different engines. I'm not sure if the pomp is the same. Pump of Audi could be same as VW Passat or Vento. Why don't u buy a used pump in Bang Na, Woratchak or Phatum Wan?

Yes I know, why did you quote me?? :D :D :) I don't know about Vento though as it is only a 1.8L and transverse mounted while there are 5 cyl Passats..

Sorry, maybe by mistake, i don't even regonize what the quote button means.

OP, you can try the Audi Club Thailand website. They have a good group of dedicated Audi guys. I'm sure someone there can get you sorted out with little fuss. Good luck, and don't go to VAG!!

There's an idea! Why didn't I think of that?? :):D

^^No worries no offense taken, also answered your PM..

How can one help prevent problems with the power steering hydraulic pump (in any vehicle)?

Well, I'm sure the automotive experts here will be able to give the appropriate advice. It's all to do with "steering lock".
