Cataract Surgery

Featured Replies

I would like to hear any recommendations for cataract surgery. My mother in law in Thailand had one a couple of years ago. She had the traditional surgery paid for my the government in her local hospital and all went well. It was also practically free for her.

I visited her recently and she is not as spry as she was last year. I was thinking about paying for the modern cataract surgery for her hoping that it would be easier for her and a quicker recovery.

Any stories, recommendations, costs?

Thanks

I had both eyes done several years ago at Bumrungrad. Here is the information I posted previously > Cataract surgery. This was for lens replacement and as such a bit expensive.

//edit - I've seen Rutnin Eye Hospital recommended by members several times also.

Rutnin Eye Hospital would be the best bet, see current thread running and also their website. Select a physician who specializes in cataract removal.

It is a very simple procedure these days, no more than a 1 night hospital stay if even that. Cost will vary with the type of artifical lens used.

Although usuually day surgery or 1 night stay she will need several follow up checks and full recovery will be a month to 6 weeks in terms of getting to normal vision.

Right, I've had cataracts fixed for both eyes at Rutnin, also had a surgical procedure for glaucoma. And everything is still functioning. All three opns were outpatient, surgery relatively early in the morning then back at 1400 hrs with the other patients for a check by the doc. Back in a week for another checkup.

FYI, I go there at least every three months for a glaucoma check.

I had cataract surgery at Rutnin last year, treated as an outpatient total cost for two examinations and operation just under 70000 Baht

I am very happy with Rutnin,

You must take your passport with you on your first visit

I have glaucoma as well and continue to be treated at Rutnin and although it is very busy there at times I have never felt either rushed or hurried thru in any way. I dont think at this point I would go anywhere else for eyes problems.

  • 9 months later...

You must take your passport with you on your first visit

Why? So they can work out how much to overcharge you based upon your nationality............
