I hope the soldiers are OK.

I think "somebody" just made a serious mistake.

Hmmm crazy move

Don't these idiots realize that most of the soldiers are just poor kids from the sticks? :)

I agree, I hope they will be OK as well.

Looks like a long day ahead... :)

That's probably why they were targeted. We shouldn't immediately assume this was the work of Red Shirts.

Not the smartest move "reds".....

Umm. Yes, yes, we should.

And we shouldn't immediately assume that it wasn't the red shirts.

- Sae daeng and his personal gang of thugs with a large stock of such weapons and more.

- Factory just raided illegally making grenade launchers.

Of course it might not be. But it's still worth differentiating between ordinary Red Shirts we see dancing on the streets, and other Thaksin-backed types who need to make something happen.

There is nothing in it for anyone else to do this.

If there is no violence, the reds will just whither away.

The reds need the violence to "show" that the government can't handle things. The reds need the tension so that the army will respond to the red provocations.

Hmmm the Army doesn't need this.... The Government will be brought down by too much violence ... that pretty much just leaves Thaksin's lackey's (Sae Daeng, Arisman, etc and the folks that follow that code of violence)

So yes it would be wrong to assume it is "The Reds" but at the same time it probably isn't wrong to assume it is "some reds".

One post deleted. Next person to accuse another of being paid to post is gone for two weeks. I've had enough of that garbage.

so did Hello Kitty or Mickey Mouse do it? Dude....c'mon

if it: looks, sounds, smells, and tastes red....betcha it is

It's because of responses like Loaded's I hope the army have the sense to remain cool.

Thaksin fired it. As soon as the reds ditch this muppet, people will take the red shirts more seriously.

Hmmm crazy move

Totally insane. It doesn't fit in with anything that has happened this weekend, now does it? unsure.gif

They are losing. They didn't turn out. They are humiliated. They are FRUSTRATED and their face is badly damaged. This isn't crazy given the crowd we are dealing with (remember BLACK SONGKRAN), it is totally PREDICTABLE.

Also predictable, the pitiful red spin that is wasn't the reds who did this.

Her we go, on schedule... sad but true.

immediately assume this was the work of Red Shirts

Yes quite so. A faction of them would be most logical.

This was a blindingly stupid move from a NORMAL thinking persons point of view.

But from some others viewpoints this is the WHOLE REASON to have the Redshirts in Bangkok:

Provoke the army into some sort of tragic confrontation on TELEVISION; spin, spin, spin the story,

and then, in theory, get the silent majority of Thais back on the Red side.

And so, crush the Democratic party and the Ammartta with them.

Never mind that all Thais see them STARTING this mess, and if it spins from control,

he who started and continued it must take the lions share of blame.

it is the barely sane act of zealots, and illogically the act of a government provocateur.

The government benefits from this fading away, only the PTP and Reds benefit, possibly,

if this blows sky high.

Greed and revenge are the worst motives on earth to injure people,

but the ones most often used, sadly....

I hope the soldiers are OK.

And your evidence is what exactly?

Saw the red shirts pass along Phaholyothin Road this morning/afternoon. As in any crowd of this size there will be some bad apples, but the majority seemed to be enjoying their trip to Bangkok. Hope that they have time to do some shopping before they go home.

it may be precisely because nothing happened this weekend. I mean, they've made no progress, so if they don't raise hel_l, then they'd go home with their tails between their legs, defeated, right? 'cause they haven't gotten their dissolved parliament have they?

then talk of smearing blood?! disgusting and quite desperate.

these may be their last ditch efforts.............. (hope it is the very last) Lost cause?

I really don't see that the Government or the Army have anything to gain by starting violence. Quite the opposite in fact. I suspect that the grenade was fired by an extremist, probably Red.

What has a factory making grenade launchers in Bangkok got to do with the Red Shirts?

Illegal weapons manufacture is big business all over Asia. The tool shop in Bangkok was well equiped with expensive machine tools and a sizable trained work force. All of the work force has been arrested.

It seems to me rather strange that although the shop had been under observation for some time the Police waited for the day of the rally commencement to raid the shop.

It's because of responses like Loaded's I hope the army have the sense to remain cool.

I didn't read Loaded's response.....but why should the army remain cool? I think this is the perfect opportunity for the army to show some spine and venture out. An army unit was just fired upon.....any other time or place, in any country, and the neighbourhood would have been locked down and the perps tracked down and killed. Justifiably so.

Imagine if a grenade had been fired into an Israeli barracks while Palestinians protested outside.

Grenades wound two soldiers amid Thai protests:

BANGKOK: -- (AFP) - Grenade attacks on a Bangkok military base Monday wounded two soldiers as tens of thousands of anti-government protesters massed at another barracks in the Thai capital, a military spokesman said.

Four M-79 grenades exploded at the base in the centre of the capital at 1:30 pm (0630 GMT), injuring one soldier in the arm and the other in the stomach, army spokesman Colonel Sunsern Kaewkumnerd said.

"Initially we suspect that the grenades were fired from a car," said Sunsern. "At the moment we have no information on the perpetrators."

The incident happened as crowds of red-shirted protesters massed in front of the 11th infantry army barracks on Bangkok's northern outskirts, where the government has been holed up, to press their demand for snap elections.

Some people may be aware that the US launched an open war against North Vietnam due to an 'incident' in the Gulf of Tonkin in August 1964. It was later revealed the 'incident' had been engineered by the Americans. It's possible, in a similar, vein, that what seems obvious, isn't obvious especially in a land of smoke and mirrors such as Thailand. Skepticism is healthy. Due to this incident, a 'power' in this large chess game may gain an advantage. However, without question you could just believe it's the red shirts. Up to you.
