kalasin
Of course it depends on where. But in medium towns a small house should be available for 3.000-6.000 baht/month.

Fookhaht
Mahasarakham's big student population keeps prices down. I rent a very spacious apartment for 2,500 baht a month. Electric about 500B/month (with a/c, bump that up to 1500B), water 150B, internet 650B. That's it. Food is ridiculously cheap, especially if you don't mind cooking yourself. Can find cheap used motorbikes (purchase) for around 10,000 - 15,000 Baht.

kamalabob2
In Satuk, Buriram a basic Thai apartment where some private school single teachers might live cost 1500 baht a month. Our family lived in a two bedroom rental attached house in a very good area of this little town where many married school teachers and police families lived and owned their own houses, and our home rental was 2000 baht a month with a basic western toilet and large kitchen area. We could have ANYTHING we wanted in this two bedroom rental as long as we paid and installed the items. Lucky Flame stove no problem, even air conditioning fine, as long as we paid for it. There was no problem when we moved and everything we had installed was stripped to the bare walls including romex type wire, electric sockets and the Square D circuit box.
