Hello,

I hope that someone can help me with this dilemma. My non B (work) visa will expire on April 30th. I have been employed at the same school for the past 3 years. I was offered another contract which will begin on May 1st. My packet is set to go, but my boss is still waiting for a letter from the area educational office which i have to take to the labor department before heading off to immigration. My boss has already left a couple of messages about this letter, but the administrator who authorizes it is out of the office for the day.

My dilemma is that if i do not get the letter by tomorrow April 9th I cannot possibly get my 1 year extension. Monday the 12th has now been declared a holiday and I along with my family will be heading to the US for a 3 week vacation on Monday April 19th and will not be returning until May 15th.

My question is can I bring my contract and other documents to the Royal consulate (I will be in Boston) and get a 1 year extension? Is a Royal consulate authorized to give extensions?

If said letter does not arrive by tomorrow, should i return my WP and get a receipt and reapply for it when i get back to LOS?

What are my options?

Thanks in advance. Mizzi

Only immirgation can give an extension, a consulate or embassy can only give you a new visa.

Is your wife Thai? If so you cna get a 60 day extension based on your wife.

Yes my wife is Thai. Would you suggest that i get the 60 day extention to keep my visa valid, along with a rentry permit and then sort this out when i get back?

If you are planning on using continues extensions of stay for PR application that would be the best plan but if that is not a factor just obtain a single entry non immigrant B visa in bean town with your paperwork and then extend your stay again later.

A big thanks to you "lopburi" and "mario". I know that i can get this sorted when i get back. The 60 day extension to keep my current visa valid did not even come to mind until "Mario" mentioned it. If my non B is kept valid for an extra 2 months based on the extension, wouldn't it make the most sense to get the 1 year extension on my current "B" upon my return to LOS? I know that by that time ALL of my paperwork will be in.

You can either do the 60 day extension and at the end apply for the 1 year extension (don't forget to get the re-entry permit) or just get a new non-B while abroad. Up to you what is the most convienient and economical.

Once your visa reaches it's utilize before (use before) date it has expired and is no longer valid. Thereafter you apply for and may be granted an extension of stay based on employment, retirement, marriage to a Thai, etc.
