Vehicles Waiting On Approaches To Airport

Featured Replies

Just out of interest, has anyone got any idea of whos are all the vehicles, cars and minivans that are always parked on the elevated section of the approach to the airport. Have seen them there for the last couple of years. Seems a strange place to wait. Maybe Bangkok has a large plane spotting community. On last nights airport run there were a lot of cars parked around where the military checkpoints are but the rest of them were in the same place, where the elevated section widens out and the have a coned off area. Something to do with the airport taxi scams possibly.

Let's give him the answer so that he will stop....

They are private / gypsy tour operators who don't actually have any "concession" to be at the airport, and don't want to pay for parking in the garage. They only go inside at the arrival time of their passengers to minimize their exposure and parking fees.

Just wondering, how many more times are you going to post the same thing because nobody replied to your previous 2 same posts?

..until they stop parking there maybe ?

Actually area has more than just private/gypsy tour operators parking there. For expats and others who live in Bangkok and travel outside of Bangkok routinely, the area is perhaps the best place for their drivers to wait prior to a phone call saying they are now ready to be picked up at door number 3. From this area, the personal drivers can be at door 3 within about 2 minutes. Sure, it's a convenience and way to not pay a parking fee...but used primarily for pickup timeliness per boss' phone call saying he/she is ready to be picked up.

I've always wondered the same myself so now I know, although I've never seen anyone sitting in the cars, maybe they have the seats down having a nap?
