Hi guys.

My husband and I both have non immigrant O visa's which are due to expire in June. Is it possible to renew them at either Bali or Kuala Lumpar or do we have to return to the UK to do this? I ask because the flights are so expensive at the minute to the UK it is going to cost us over £2000 and if there is a cheaper alternative it would help us muchly!

Thanks for any answers

Perth with ID card proof of visiting a Thai friend would be the closest (as you do not claim to qualify for any other reason).

If you have a Non O retirement you do not renew your visa. You ask for a one year extension, 1,900 Bt each, at your relevant immigration office. You do not need to go back to the UK.

You can extend it within one month before it expires (don't leave it to the last minute). I always get mine a week or so before expiry, that gives me the time to get the necessary documents ready if I forget anything. Plenty of posts about this subject telling you what paperwork etc you will need.

We are not retired so do not have a retirement visa. We are here visiting friends and also scuba diving. If we cannot get a new non immigrant o without going back to the UK can we just get a 3 month tourist visa from KL or Bali? Really don't want to have to go home just yet!

The question is how long do you want to stay. Single entry tourist visa will give you 60 days permission to stay on entry, and can extend for further 30 days at Thai immigration (fee 1,900 baht). Should be able to obtain at any consulate within the region. If want to stay longer, can obtain double entry tourist visa from either Vientiane (Laos) or Phnom Penh (Cambodia). With extensions and border run in the middle that would give you nearly 6 months stay. You will not obtain Non-O visa on basis of visiting friends within the region. The nearest consulate that would issue such a visa is Perth with copy of ID card/passport of Thai friend.

Perth is easy..

1 year Visa '0' 225 AU$ [6,800baht]

If you email them you can make an appointment and get the Visa the same day, so if you only want the Visa then you need only spend 1 night there. There open Tuesday and Thursday. closed all Thai & Australian holidays.

I went 6 weeks ago, flight with Thai Air because it is a direct flight of 6hr 40 mins... cost 20.850 baht.... Tiger Air with a stop in Singapore is arount 14,000 baht.

Myself went for 5 days, total cost.. flight, hotel, Visa, food etc was under 50,000 baht.. At airport in Perth I used 'Connect' bus service + if you buy a return ticket it is a lot cheaper
