I am employed at one company as a teacher and have a work permit and non-b extension of stay.

I have recently been offered some work on the side doing some modeling. They want my passport etc for tax purposes which would suggest they don't want to pay me cash in hand.

Am I violating any regulations by doing extra work on the side? I remember reading somewhere that I am only permitted to work for the company at which my work permit is registered to.

Thanks

You would have to have your second employer added to your curent work permit (if they are in the same labour office area). For this you need permission of your first employer. If they don't agree, you will not get a work permit.

So I guess I should explain that they need to pay me cash in hand.....

Yes, that's right. The law is a guideline only, it just means there will be penalties to pay should you get caught by the 'authorities'.

Maximum penalty for working without a WP is 5 (five) years in Thai prison.

Normally 2000 baht and deportation+black stamp in your passport.

errrrrr......NO. you need a second work permit, as you have already been advised. Without it you will be working illegally. This could end in tears!!

Working without a work permit is illegal in the same way that prostitution is illegal
