Korat88 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 If anyone lives in Waeng Nam Khiew I would be very grateful if you would provide feedback on the degree to which the climate affects your household furnishings. In particular, do you get a lot of fine white 'mildew' or 'fungus' type growth on soft furnishings and carpets etc...? I have been told by a Thai person living in the area that it may be an issue, so hence the query. I suppose it depends very much on the type of housing and the ventilation. I ask as one day I plan to build something there and would like to know if this is something I should seriously consider. The other option would be to amend plans and look for somewhere near the beach in Cha-Am or the surrounding area where I don't think this issue is such a concern. Thank you for any feedback.
32x Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Never had this problem or heard of this problem & ive been living in the area on & off for 8 years :-)
Dave the Dude Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Never had this problem or heard of this problem & ive been living in the area on & off for 8 years :-) How many local homes do you know of with carpets?? Thats not a trick question or 'one liner', its just because, like you, I live in Isaan and know not one home with carpets, thats all! Edited May 6, 2010 by Dave the Dude
barryofthailand Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Thailand is a tropical climate, and carpets mildew easily in Tropical climates. That's why you do not see many carpets here in Thailand. Barry

When I say carpets I don't mean wall-to-wall as per Europe, I was thinking more along the lines of Persian carpets/rugs. I am sure they can be affected, but then so would sofas, curtains etc... most probably. I haven't seen this problem in Korat which is only about an hour away, but was told that it is different in Wang Nam Khiew so just wanted to check.
Farma Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I had a nice Turkish merino carpet that lasted just over a year before silverfish and moths made a mess of it.
