Just a question: what is happening outside Bangkok downtown, particularly in the Provinces? Can somebody give us a picture of the situation; Chiang Maii, Udon Thani, Korat, Khong Kaen....? Is it quiet?

This is going to be the real concern. A huge and self-contained protest in the center of a large city is inconvenient, but it's contained. If this becomes anything like a prolonged rural Maoist insurgency (which I'm not suggesting it will, but it has shown specific signs) then that would be really detrimental and could actually tear at the national identity and political cohesion of the country in a much stronger way than this sideshow ever has.

Chulalongkorn Hospital is having to evacuate its patients.... again

Chula Hosp releases its 8th declaration

BANGKOK, 14 May 2010 (NNT) – The King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital on Friday has evacuated patients from Bhor Por Ror Building to Nawamin Rachini Building, while special clinic is closed until 16 May 2010.

The eighth declaration has been released due to the latest crackdown of the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) in Silom area on the night of 13 May.

The crashes resulted in breakages of hospital's windows.

The hospital operation was also affected from the utilities cut off and blockage of transportation routes.

Therefore, Chulalongkorn Hospital on 14 May has transferred patients admitted at the Bhor Por Ror Building to Nawamin Rachini Building located on the side of Henry Dunand Road.

Service for out patients at Bhor Por Ror Building is suspended on 14 May, while all special clinics will be closed after official hours from 14 to 16 May. In addition, every medical class is cancelled on 14 May 2010.

Once the area is cleared and the BTS and MRT have shut down I would guess that the army will be given the weekend to clear the streets. I won't be surprised if Martial law is imposed and the center of Bangkok placed under curfew to keep out the rubberneckers. They won't be asked to finish in one day like on April 10. Since things have deteriorated makes sense to see the crackdown through now.

...

Given the steep angle of the trajectory as it literally fell out of the sky, and the way it ricocheted when it hit the table is likely the round came from the soldiers shooting into the air near SalaDaeng/Lumpini. It's not that far (as the crow, errr make that as the bullet flies) from there to my soi.

Thanks for that! I've been telling people that if you fire into the air at anything other than a true 90 degree angle (nearly impossible without lots of preparation) the bullet will come down far away (this of course does not account for wind conditions). When TS went on television and told the country the shootings at Tak Bai were the result of bullets being fired into the air and falling back to earth, killing the people in front of them, I was just amazed at the audacity of it, and how insulting stupid the statement. I didn't like him before that, but afterward he sunk to the animated excrement category.

A source or link would be REALLY nice!

Unfortunately the reporter's Aunt who works in a nearby tower who received a call from her friend who lives in Thong Lo who was talking to her driver who was gassing up the car after picking up the dry cleaning nearby couldn't be reached for comment, as is the usual case.

Channel News Asia television is reporting that its reporter witnessed a police officer firing his weapon at Army soldiers.

A source or link would be REALLY nice!

Not sure how to link an on-air news broadcast.

Will a copy of my television model help?

Ah another one so bright that not know about che guevara and how many he butcher. nice pic, shame you know nothing at all about this man.

Thaksin will be soon back in driving seat and will get credit now for resolving this. Abhisit failied and Suthep is criminal and banned already so not going to be better after this. PS they shoot another taxi driver and CNN live reporters on scene.... well, I know you not interest in this so go google if you want to educate your self.

Army might have good road block, but will not kill many their brother and sister. Careful who call them to shoot because don't know which way they will shoot if have to kill!

OH and if you read CNN, they report split in ranks with some police shooting at army this pm. And they see it, not like you only imagine!!

You maybe correct, Thaksin may be able to stop this mayhem, he could just ask his "Peaceful" supporters to stop their violence and return to their homes, and let their leaders negotiate via parliament. But will ho do that? I doubt it!

Wrong. That's too common-sense to happen given the history of this debacle.

I thought according to the reds here, this was a peaceful demonstration and they had no weapons??

Those reds here never seem to get tired to argue against the obvious eve when there are pictures ... oh no these are made by the government .... wonder if they really think they can convince anyone here?

Why don't you red supporters do the right thing and go down to join your friends??

It must be something that's called the "Seh Daeng Kalasin Syndrome" together with Thaksinitis. It is a highly infectious and deadly virus that is spreading amongst the reds, and only amongst the reds. Each separately is fatal.

Was peaceful until army come, run amok, run away and leave weapons of war behind. Live on TV in april because they show it because think they going to win against reds. did not!

Yes. They are after all incredibly minor charges, and politically motivated at that. Thaksin may agree to not actually run himself however.

Nothing "incredibly minor" about a conviction of two years in prison. And of course let's not forget that there are many other cases against him that have been stalled by his cowardly fleeing act.

I try to stay technical only: if Provinces are entering in the troubles and soldiers or police join .... then we are in the worse scenario. This is why it is important to follow what is happening outside Bangkok. Also there was an announced UDD meeting, is there any announcement?

Thaksin come back now, put brother and family in charge police and courts and TV, Radio Army. Then invite mr Suthep to come explain about past corruption of him and of 30 people dead.

Although i dont have ESP, I would imagine the outcome from today's 3pm trailor talk was..

"We demand the CRES stop and call for the PM to stand down."

(off the record, Arisman was asking if McDonald's will deliver)

A deal seems pretty inevitable though. I think it'd be great to see free elections again where Thaksin and Abhisit can lead their respective parties. If Abhisit wins then that's totally fine with me.

So they just forget the little part of the Montenegrin's conviction and prison sentence?

Yes. They are after all incredibly minor charges, and politically motivated at that. Thaksin may agree to not actually run himself however.

Don't forget Seh Daeng's admission that his deity did NOT want the reconciliation process to go ahead, though he has since changed his tune now that his military brain is finished. There is only one word for bankrolling an armed attempt to bring down a government; TREASON. :)

understood the CRES policy: blockade organised on large avenues or along the railway line (Indra) so easy to control, but the area is quite large, need a lot of soldiers to maintain the control. Larger it is weaker it is....

A country out of control

A government out of control

All because of an illegal coup in 2006.

Shame on them all, the PAD in 2006, the Army in 2006 and shame on all those who perpetuated the ills of that coup ever since to this day.

And a Thai Visa poster out of control?

Shame on you and your fellow terrorist sympathisers for ignoring the many times that you have been told that it all started with Thaksin trying to set himself up as a dictator by buying votes, killing his rivals in his "war on drugs", stealing money from the taxpayer and changing laws to suit himself. Shame, shame, shame.

another post that show ignorance of Thailand more than 10 years ago. boy have you fans of facism got a lot to learn about this land. No corruption before Thaksin you say. 5555555555 :)

When even the army and police are reluctant to be in the fight, the government must be bad and out of step with people.

CRES just want army to attack protesters. Maybe they feel very safe in the bunker with the army outside to protect them from democracy and the will of people.

justice will catch suthep soon and you ignorant people who cannot google him will have to learn some bitter truth about heros of your.

"Fan of fascism?" Absolute <deleted>.

"A lot to learn / ignorance about Thailand?" How would you know? I merely said that this particular poster pointed out where he thought this started and I pointed out what has been said many, many times by other posters. Deny what I have said about Thaksin.

I know there is more to it than that but the laws of this country and the rules of this forum prevent me from saying any more.

"No corruption before Thaksin?" Where did I say that? Come on, point it out.

Heroes of mine? I have little sympathy for the yellows. I condemn violence whoever causes it.

The problem with you reds and yellows is that everything for you is in "black and white" i.e. if you're not with us, you're with them. Pretty much the same in most parts of the world too.

I try to take the middle path.

People like you are the problem, not the solution.

Am I the only one who thinks that NOTHING at all from the red-rabble leaders; (Jatuporn, Suporn, Arisman, Whacky-Weng, Kwanchai) who are usually on stage at Rachaprasong tooting their own horns, doesn't bode well for the likelihood of the rank-n-file protestors getting out of this mess unscathed?

Usually the red-rabble leaders have a press conference at about 3PM, or at least the come out of their air-con container long enough to mug for the cameras :D before announcing the press conference is postponed.

So far nothing, not a frickin' peep. :D

As an aside; Usually I can get really good reception of Red-Rachaprasong-Radio (106.7-106.9), but today it has the strongest blocking signal I've ever heard drowning it out. So I've no idea what's up, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of the red leaders who have less conviction about this debacle they orchestrated have taken off for safer haunts. :)
