I think being a bit of an alarmist never hurt anybody.

I also think that if the redshirts are defeated in Bangkok and scurry off back up north ,they will eventually want to secede from Thailand and form their own state and then it'll really be on for young and old !!

The sense of Thai nationalism in the north coincides with 99% of the rest of Thailand. Redshirts aren't protesting for a separate state; they are protesting for a more just society. However, the people who lead them and who they think have their interests at heart are really just in it for themselves imo.

I totally agree with Loaded on this. Redshirt leadership sucks. If they had better leaders, then perhaps they could have succeeded with resolving some of the issues they are fighting for. The current leaders are just pushing their own interest and not thinking about the common redshirt under them.

On top of that, it seems the less hardline red leaders have all quit as they wanted to accept the peace deal. The hardcore leaders are now in charge.

I am not sure if you have ever been to Thailand and particularly to ChiangMai, Thailand. There is no way that people here would want to secede. EVER.

Hmmm Weng and Nattawutt (sp) are trying to buy time again (I kinda hope they get a little!) but as long as there are the Ronin, Arisaman, Jatuporn, Khwanchai, and Rambo ....

I am thinking that there is little chance for this to end now without seeing bodies of many women and children on TV. Unless the government has a good idea of who the ronin are and where they are, OR they take-out the folks listed above quickly....

I just can't think of how they hope for this to end .... The ONLY person that benefits from the type of violence that is ahead of us is Thaksin and even then it is a slim chance that he gains any advantage either.

The violent rhetoric of the red leaders means that they really can't surrender, doesn't it? I have been opposed to a general amnesty for the red leaders but at this point I would think it might be acceptable IF they accepted house arrest and a permanent ban from participating in ANY protest or political activity in the future. (Beats the needle!)
