Food Intolerance Test

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows a hospital here where you can get a test done for food intolerance?

Someone I know has just got one done in UK - gives a full breakdown of every food and your tolerance to it.

I live around Victory Monument so I'll check at Phyathai Hospital which is nearby.

Allergy Center:

Which has an assortment of tests.

There is also one at VitalLife:

The website is a separate site from the Bumrungrad one, and there is not too much information there.

The VitalLife test is extremely thorough, and much less invasive - but is also more expensive.

For the allergy center, you can call to find out your options (the center phone number is on the link above), but for the VitalLife one, I would stop by to get the brochure.

I telephoned Vitallife this morning to make a enquiry about there food intolerance testing and there secratery had no idea what i was talking about ,do you know if there is a specific doctor there i need to talk too .

I am currently living in Pattaya so its a little bit far for me to go and pick up a brochure .

Any help greatly appreciated

I will go tomorrow. 250 foods tested. 25,000 Baht. They said they imported the lab to Thailand and all the tests are done here. Not cheap, but what price can you put on health?

testimonials for its FoodScan food intolerance test were genuine and

that food intolerance tests could be used to treat weight problems,

arthritis and tiredness. For many years, YorkTest has been promoting

food intolerance testing as a way to identify foods that, if

eliminated from a person's diet, could relieve a wide range of

that occur when a sample of the patient's blood is exposed to various

food substances. The prevailing scientific view is that such tests

are not trustworthy for diagnosing allergies or sensitivities. This

Forget it , a scam that's from a doctor in Singapore after I took mine to him he told me wot I was tolerant and intolerant too without even looking at me results or it's magic...

People need to wake up to the preponderance of quack treatments available in Thailand, largely due to the lack of regulation in this area.

The last time I had allergy testing done in the US eight years ago it involved making a series of scratches on my back, each one containing a different substance. The scratches were painless and were made in rows, in total about 90 scratches. I went away and came back two days later to see which scratch had flared and this was corelated back to the application map to determine which substance caused the reaction.

So ~in Thailand hey use a machine to do all this, isn't technology simply amazing these days!

But more seriously: I would recommend the OP to go and consult with a good gastroenterologist to discuss the reasons and symptoms of why he/she feels he/she is allergic to some type of food. Food and and allergies to it fall into different groups. lactose refers top all dairy products, gluten to all wheat based products, allergies to both are not uncommon. But symptoms such as excessive gas, bloating, dihorea may not have anything to do with food intolerance hence visiting an expert on the gut is a better way forward, I think, chance are that visiting one of these food intolerance testing centers will prove expensive and unhelpful.

Those scratches are called "prick" test (not kidding, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_allergy_test). IGG test can be done from blood sample and that is what I am interested. Surely results can vary but you can find out over 200 different allergy risks.

If you eventually find that you are "allergic" to over 200 food substances I wonder what you will eat !

The common GENUINE food allergies are associated with :-

• Eggs
  
• Milk (cows)
  
• Peanuts
  
• Shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster)
  
• Soy
  
• Tree nuts
  
• Wheat
  

Some idiosyncratic allergies also exist (ie. some people may be allergic to strawberry's)

Food allergies are usually identified in childhood although some can emerge later in life

Most of the so called "allergy testing" services advertised are quack organisations which pander to the "worried well" and are very effective in their ability to relieve you of loads of cash ! (Ref earlier post re York Test Laboratory)

The prevailing scientific view is that food intolerance( "allergy") tests are not trustworthy. The American Academy's Practice Guidelines state: "IgG and IgG subclass antibody tests for food allergy do not have clinical relevance, are not validated, lack sufficient quality control, and should not be performed."

If you believe you are indeed suffering a "food" allergy the simplest "test" is to eliminate the substance you believe is the cause of your symptoms from your diet.

Should you believe you need professional advise you should seek a Consultant Physician who has undergone Post Graduate Education in Clinical Immunology who has an interest in Allergy.( Preferably someone educated in a Western country)

"allergy" is a favorite word in quackery.....in fact it has little or no meaning to most people but they love to claim an "intolerance" to something.....wheat, lactose whatever.....

unfortunately the main flaw in this plane is that it is incredibly dificult to know for sure you have actually "eliminated" a particular "substance" (whatever that is) from your diet.

......What is nearer the truth is that most of us a NOT "allergic" to things, it's just that when we can find a solution to an ailment, it's nice to be able to put a name to it.....and every time it occurs after that we just but it down to accidental exposure to our newfound allergy.
