Gps On Motorbike

Featured Replies

OK, I bought a GPS for my Yamaha Nouvo bike from Pantip. It works really quite well and has a mount that is fine for the bike.

The main problem is that the thing runs out of charge after about an hour - which is not enough for a decent return trip anywhere. It came complete with a charge cable to plug into a cigarette lighter, so I want to know this:-

Is it possible/ safe to fit a cigarette lighter to a motorbike? I have no idea where to find a decent auto electrician who could even do it. ( I live in the Sathorn area).

Any suggestions, or should I just buy another one with a longer battery time????

I did it on my Ninja 650R for the exact same reason. It is was problem. I went to a local big bike repair shop (Phuket Bike Art) and asked them to not only track one down, but install it. They did both expertly.

I had an old 3 way lighter adapter, cut the plug off after identifying positive and negative and used that wired across the live side of the fuse (after the ignition is turned on) and put it into my side pannier with an on/off switch and some double sided sticky tape.

When I use my GPS I just plug it into the socket and tape the cable down onto the frame and the tank and it works great plus I can use another socket to charge the mobile if need be.
