I've been hearing that the BIB are going to be enforcing "safet" helmets at the end of the month. We've heard it all before, but is it finally going to happen?

Has anyone heard anymore?

It all goes hand in hand with what I mentioned before. BKK is pushing for extra revenue. They will have a field day if they do try to enforce it.

They have many signs along the Cheweng Lake road which states.... must wear Helmet,Number plate, and will check licence also. Acording to info that I have heard the crack down will start on the 1st of June? They had a big crack down about a week and a half ago in the same place....but were only checking Licence plates and paperwork for Bikes and some cars, Helmets were not on the agenda that day. (The BIB's were mostly from Bangkok). They confiscated a lot of bikes and the owners had to go home and produce the paperwork and then were also fined to get their bikes back.

But we as Farang.....always wear helmets hey!!!!! we should be setting a good example. :)

A lot more controls now.

They don't stop everyone.

They random pick the offenders.

Yesterday by the lamdin red lights at ring road Chaweng.

6-7 thai standing, waiting for someone to come with ticket money.

1 police stopping, next writing ticket, third taking money.

Interesting.

If this is true, and the thread about the new bar laws, it does sound to me that the Bangkok Police might be focussing their attention on places other than Bangkok. After all, they didn't really show themselves in the best of lights over the Red Shirt events, they have now been relegated to 2nd place by the Army, so have less power and less respect, and, dare I say it .... less money?? :)

I have little doubt the BIBs here will take the initiative to their hearts with the usual local interpretation. :D

Good.

Tired to see the few people use an helmet, always a working type, a plastic bowl, a nazi or desert storm one.

Use the real one!

yes at first though once everyone has cotton on people will wear them all the time. my guess is same as usaual. check points once a week at different times. trick people in to thinking they are getting away with it then nick them all

wearing a helmet or not is a personnal choice and doesn't make a threat to other's life, no reason for people to complain others don't wear it.

however the police checking the bikes for license plate, papers, dead tires, broken lights and blinkers, non existant brakes aswell as exessive noise is a plus to everyone's security on the road.

Last time I looked , wearing a helmet was law.Where does it say it's personal choice?

hopefully for individuals freedom of life, the law in thailand isn't really enforced otherwise you would see a lot of things disappear, no enterainement after 2AM is one of the biggest example.

Yes, it will be"enforced" every end of the month and on the

15th of every month when people got money in their pockets!

Timing around lunch time and 05:00 - 06:00 PM

At certain Police Mini-Stations more randomly, but usually at these dates.

Not only helmets, but driver licenses, Insurance & Tax stickers, Number plates...

one reason safety, the other is because quite a significant number of Bikes on this island "disappears" !
