Surf Season

Featured Replies

Planning 3 months in LOS.

Any surfers out there want to let me know how consistant the surf is during surf season.

Have surfed Kata/Kata Noi/Nai Harn plenty of times but only there for a week at a time.

Was going to spend full 3 months on Koh Samui but after having a great session middle of Kata Beach end of March this year (freak day outside surf season) Full day offshore 4 foot peaks all to myself thought i might do a month in Phuket (August).

Kamala has been mentioned as a good break??

What about Surin area?

Any thoughts???

This was Surin about this time last year. Not very consistent though. You should take a look at Kalim also.post-18849-1275460956_thumb.jpgpost-18849-1275460991_thumb.jpg.JPG]post-18849-1275461013_thumb.jpg

No surf here, you should go to Bali.

Thanks for the constructive response GRUMPYOLDMAN. Are surfers not welcome in Phuket?? :):D

Not that they are not welcome, just conditions here are fairly awful..

Brother lives on Bali, surfs all up and down the Indo chain, is addicted to it.. Here the surf is storm swell and usually with onshore winds, combines with shore dump / close out and mushy waves it makes for a very low quality surf destination. Yes theres sometimes waves, but Phukets best days are a very low average day for Indo, and we probably get a handful of best days a monsoon.

Sure it OK to go get wet, but simply looking at the geography and ocean dynamics should tell you that Phukets not a surf spot.

Magic seaweed and windguru tell you what you need to know.

Just getting blown out of proportion considering the type of surf.

When I see 60 surfers in the water at Kata, I have to laugh, 10 years ago there might have been two. Until it gets +6 feet, it's fluff.

In 1994 I would surf my local beach (name unsaid) alone, last weekend I counted sixteen guys on the one peak.

No thanks to one knucklehead (said in a friendly manner as I do like the guy) who wrote in Lonely Planet that Phuket had "world class waves".

Anyway, there's my rant, all I'm saying is if you truly are looking for world class surf, go to Bali, but if surfing is just an excuse to tell the wife or GF at home the reason you are going to Phuket (while most of the time white water rafting at Christins), then I feel better about you.
