I started to have some back problems and I'm sure its because of my office chair, its not an ergonomic chair.

Here is my problem. I have a hard time finding shops that are selling good quality (brand) ergonomic office chairs.

I tried quite a few so far from the 1500 baht ones up to 4000-5000 and they are all bad and break easily. Do any of you know where

to go. I'm ready to pay 10-20k for a good quality chair if I just knew where to get it.

I'm in Bangkok btw.

Thanks

Hello Mads,

Let me give you more of a personal, non- Bumrungrad response. I just went through the same exercise, as apparently sitting can be much harder on your body than sports.

It was a real challenge to find a chair that fit, and I ended up going with a 2,000 baht chair because it had the best back support in the right location for my back issues, and I needed something immediately. However, it has some other issues (which I knew when I bought it), and I am taking my time looking for one which fits all my needs.

The first place to start is, surprisingly enough, MBK. I went to office stores and could not find anything appropriate. Here at the hospital, there is a store which sells attachments to chairs and car seats (which may be appropriate for your particular situation), but I wanted something all put together.

On the furniture floor at MBK (same floor as Index) there are two stores in particular which sell imported ergonomic chairs. I can't remember the names, but they are in the center isle, fairly close to Index. You can't miss them, they are all glass and chairs all over. One of the stores had some very nice chairs in the 15,000 - 25,000 baht range, with loads of adjustments.

This Business Week article:

Your Office Chair Is Killing You - BusinessWeek

talks about a couple of chairs on the second page. It explains why normal chairs are not the best, and the chairs this article mentions might be "generic" enough to order (you will see why if you read it). I can't say for sure, of course.

However, at the end of the day it is how you sit when you buy the new chair which will determine whether the chair was worth the money. You can buy the best chair, but if you don't sit properly, it is as useful as a 100 baht stool. My PT here at the hospital is slowly rehabbing my back and scapula so I sit straight, and don't round my shoulders and neck. It is a constant, daily struggle but I can see huge improvements in my daily neck and shoulder pain.

Hope this helps, or at least gives you a lead in the right direction.

Best regards,

Scott @ Bumrungrad

Thanks scott !

That was some really helpful advice. I will go take a look at MBK asap and see if I can find a good chair.
