BANGKOK (NNT) -- The lawyer of the anti-government United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) has lodged an appeal to the court, seeking bail for 10 core leaders under detention for terrorism.

Mr Karom Poltaklang, lawyer representing the UDD, on Friday submitted a petition for the release of 10 UDD leaders who had been detained on the charge of terrorism. Soldier Injured in Yala Bomb Attack

Insurgents have bombed a teacher protection unit in Yala province, injuring one soldier.

Police and military officials together with a bomb squad have begun inspecting the crime scene where a bomb attack hit a teacher escort unit in Yala's Krongpinang district.

The blast injured 22-year-old Private Wattana Saenpima, who was later transported to Yala Hospital.

Authorities found a one-foot wide crater at the scene, along with a remains of a metal box and wires which were collected and marked as evidence.

Private Wattana and seven other officers were patrolling the area on their teacher protection duty. When they found the dubious box, they retreated and notified the bomb squad for further inspection.

However, suspected insurgents were likely monitoring the unit's move and detonated the bomb on the other side of the road, resulting in Private Wattana's injuries.
