Best Therapeutic Massage

I tried thai massage at some different places, but quite often it appears more as a kind of massage for relaxation than as massage of great therapeutic value. What I want is something which can effectively loosen up tensions in the body, thus help to correct imbalances which may have been there for years, affecting body posture etc.

I had some sessions with Mike from seatherapy.net

He uses thai massage and the understanding of Sen Lines (from Thai Massage) as a basis for his treatments, but I find his approach is much more direct and effective as far as a therapeutic value is concerned. However, he is quite expensive, so I cannot afford having too many sessions with him. I would be interested in getting input on other options which could be of relevance, and not too expensive.

I have had shiatsu massages in San Francisco that are worth this price (but cost even more). However, I get a pretty good Thai one for 150 per hour at the traditional medical massage place that is very close to Chang Mai Gate. I guess it depends on the results whether it is worth it.

As I have written before on forum, the best massage for pain I ever had was at Maripaun Massage on Mae Jo Road. I suffered 2 herniated disks and nothing could help me including doctors and medications but after regular sessions of therapeutic massage there I have been completely free of pain for first time. Shop is officially called Maripaun Beauty Salon and Thai Traditional Massage. It is easier to find now since they have installed traffic light and put up new sign. It is 6.5 km from Meechok Plaza and Rimping Market on way to Maejo University, on right side of road heading to Maejo. Just go to second traffic light from Meechok Plaza and make u-turn at light. Then come back towards Chiang Mai and when you see sign for Wawee Coffee the massage is last shop in building next to Wawee. There is also a sign over the front entrance now which is just recent.

Rate for thai massage is 120 baht per hour and there is special therapeutic massage strictly for injuries which is 150 baht per hour. Masseuses are named Allie and Newt anb both worked at Sukhothai massage in Phuket and learned at same school so maybe this is why they are both so good. Also they have new trainee named Nit Noi who is very nice also. Have pleasant atmosphere and air-con and owner marisa is a sweetheart. Phone number is 0852849118. It is good idea to make appointment, and shop is closed on Mondays.

I visit Dao at Ying-Yang massage on Loi Kroh every week or so.  200 baht an hour.

Thai massage is an acquired taste, I think, and it took me several sessions to fully appreciate the effects.

How many sessions did you have, and how often, before you appreciated the effects?

Ive used this massage place for quite a while.

Loikroh Massage

That place seems quite good. I will try the Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal detox massage) there on friday. It is an amazing treatment, very good to release stress and negative emotions, and to bring about a general sense of peace and relaxation. I have never felt a similar relaxing effect from any kind of more conventional massage. However, all the CNT practitioners that I have come across, is charging a lot. At this place, in example, they charge 1.500 baht for a 90-120 minutes treatment. Can anyone recommend other practitioners for CNT?

Check to see if they still do the abdominal massage as I have not been for a while. IMHO they also have the best veggie and raw food in Chiang Mai, but it is pricey.

I guess you are referring to the "Back, Neck, Shoulder & Stomach Massage" - 90 mins for 650 baht? It appears as if the CNT itself only takes up a limited amount of the duration of the massage. Did they give CNT exclusively when you were there?

I visited this place once. Yeah, the food is pricey for sure.

Yes they did it alone. I did it every day when I was fasting and it was a reasonable price.

I have heard they also do it at Man Tak Chia's resort in Chiang Mai, but it would probably be more expensive.

ulysses....

do u fast consistently, weekly, monthly or occasionally pls?

regards

I did a lot of fresh vegetable juice fasting when I was younger, but now very occasionally and mostly to lose weight and then I stay on a raw diet as long as I can stand it. Unfortunately, as soon as I start eating cooked food I start gaining weight again. That did not happen in my youth. :(
