Police Rule out Politics in Car Showroom Shooting

Police forensic experts have inspected and collected evidence from a vandalized Mercedes Benz showroom as authorities believe a local motorcycle gang was responsible for the attack.

Investigators have made significant progress regarding yesterday's attack on the Cherdchai Maccina Mercedes Benz showroom in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The entire front wall of the showroom was damaged.

Judging from the shell casings found at the crime scene, the forensic unit believes the assailants used a .357-caliber gun.

Muang district police station superintendent Police Colonel Padungkiat Siripornwiwat has interrogated the two showroom security guards.

The guards testified that at around 1 A.M on Sunday, a passing local motorcycle gang fired three shots into the air, but was ignored by the guards since this was normal behavior of the gang.

The guards only later discovered bullet holes on the showroom's front panel.

Police believe that the attack was motivated by the gang's recklessness and had nothing to do with politics.

Showroom owner Sujinda Cherdchai is married to Pheu Thai MP Asanee Cherdchai, who is suspected by the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation of supporting the red-shirt movement.
