It is normally a combination of letters and digits, so your idea doesn't work, Tornado.

Examaple:

Y43ER4

3T98QT

(not real examples!)

its is coming back to me a little - but also still guessing.

Y43ER4 - 434 Baht

3T98QT - 398 Baht

Im not sure George, but maybe it might jolt someone elses memory.

good luck as I think we are all interested in thier "science".

In uk every business that uses a code has they own key.

The key is nine or ten characters and is usually one or two words so that it is easy to remember.

Example : code = new prices

n=1 e=2 w=3 etc, etc

There is no reason why you cannot put some numbers in there

A universal code would be unwelcome as all your competitors could walk into your shop and read off your cost prices.

What's the purpose of this secret code? To make inventory or dealing on the spot easier?

Yes it is a legacy really and not needed today if you have computers.

You can talk to a customer and do a bulk deal without having to go and check your buying in price. I used to use one a long, long time ago.

It also shows the cost price of that actual item and not the current price.
