Japanese tour operators observe business opportunities in Ubon Ratchathani

UBON RATCHATHANI (NNT) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has taken Japanese media and tour operators on a tour of Ubon Ratchathani to witness the province’s potentials in the tourism market.

TAT Ubon Ratchathani Office Director Yupa Panrod stated that the familiarization trip was held to promote this northeastern province as a tourism destination for the Japanese. She said that Ubon Ratchathani has several attractions and related services such as the Pha Taem National Park and Lenten Candle making activities in various communities. Visitors to the province can further their trips to neighbouring Laos standing on the opposite side of the Mekong.

Twenty-five members of the Japanese media and tour business took part in the trip which included a visit to attractions in the Lao PDR.

Those delegates also visited hotels in Ubon Ratchathani to observe their service potential. The TAT also arranged the ‘Table Top Sale’ at a hotel in the province to provide a stage for Thai tour and hotel operators to discuss with the Japanese counterparts business opportunities to enlarge their market.

It would be similar to when the europeans were conquering North America and met the native indians for the first time....

The gap in technology and awareness of the world is....lightyears away.......

Couldn't help it...it just slipped out........

There is nothing to do in Ubon. That doesn't mean it is a bad place or anything but what draw is there for Japanese tourists??? They did what most people would do and went into Lao. If they just crossed into Pakse and back they must have been really underwhelmed by it all.

If you dont count travelling time I think you could exhaust Ubons tourist attractions in one morning.

Agreed, and all of it you could see on a better, bigger scale elsewhere in Thailand.

The only thing I could imagine an Isaan city doing to attract tourists it so invest in a massive, all-authentic pre-20th century Thai/Lao village. Thailand doesn't really have a place like that where there is an entire town built in traditional methods, there's just buildings and sois here and there in Chiang Mai, etc. Look how much attention the Thompson house gets in Bangkok... and that's just a few buidlings. The movie set of Narusuan would be a cool place to visit.

I'm hoping that such stays light years away.
