5 days Chiang Mai (Fly to Chiang Mai from Bangkok)

1 day sukhothai (Take evening bus to Sukhothai from Chiang Mai the night before)

1 day (travel to Bangkok by bus or plane from Sukhothai)

3 days Bangkok, maybe 1 of those Ayutthaya

Any thoughts? Is there any place I should spend more or less time?

Thanks

At a total of 10 days you might consider spending more time in Thailand in general. It takes me that long to get over the jetlag each time I get there - I guess it depends on where you're coming from though.

I am coming from Tokyo, not that far away. 10 days is the most I could get off from my job.

Tell us what do you intend to accomplish in Thailand.

Then many of us could help you structure a once in a life time vacation in Thailand. :jap:

I would like to see some temples, some ruins, go whitewater rafting, eat Thai food, enjoy another culture, see traditional Thai life, 1 or 2 museums, and maybe see some elephants. I am not into drinking or prostitutes.

Thats doable, first day Chaing Mai get hotel I would recommend Chaing Mai Gate good price and walking distance to center of town in April 1,000Baht, staff has always been very helpful and a breakfast as well. You can go on internet and make reservation donot wait to long they get a lot of tours in. Walk over to center of old town check it out lots of wats. Go to night market. Set up any tours,

Doi Ithnon is very good outside of Chaing Mai highest point in Thailand lots of waterfalls. Its all day.

Treking tour all day, ride elephant, raft, hike around

Give yourself free time to do what ever.

My suggestion as travel agent:

a) 3 nites in Chiang Mai [ok flight from BKK]

B) 2 nites in Sukhothai/Sri Satchanalai [lots of things to see and if you take bus, you won't have enough time if you stay only 1 nite - Also, on the way from CNX you can stop and visit Lampang]

c) Train/Bus from Sukhothai to Ayutthaya [overnight on board]

d) Balance of nites in BKK or one nite in Pattaya

Fly to C.M..Bkk is like any City, fly direct to C.M. from Swampy Airport if you can.Or to Phitsanulok, Suk othai is nearby. ,C.M,is the best then direct to Bkk,you have little time. That way you dont spend hours on Busses or crappy trains

I have 2 suggestions one staying with everything you want to do and one the way I feel you would get most out of such a short time.

3 days in Bangkok.

1 Take early bus to Sukhothai can see all the old area is 2 hours easy. Then take bus to Pitsanulok it is one hour away.. Take night sleeper train to Chiang mai.

5 days chiang mai go ride elephants see soi sutep(sp) Take a trip to see hillside tribes. Do whatever tour places have to offer that you are interested in seeing they will take good care of you.

1 fly back to bangkok and have last night in bkk.

Sukhothai is small and the old part that is for tourists is easy to see in a couple of hours. So I wouldnot devote to much time to it.Try to get there early enough to get back to Pitsanulok and get night sleeper train to chiang mai.Chiang Mai has lots to offer great day trips to many places. I recommend you get to Chiang mai quickly after bkk But spend time in Bangkok first and last part of trip it is great city and the last day is always a good experience when leaving for home.

Your itinary is good but crowded. Travel can take a chunk out of it.The bus alone to Sukhothai maybe 6 hours. If there is flight take it.I know there are flights to pitsanulok but then you still need to bus it to sukhothai.I personally would skip sukhothai.

This is how I would do it .

2 days bkk

7 days chiang mai

1 day bkk

From Chiang Mai you can do so much. Everyday for a week something new. And many great wats to see.

Whoah!!- far too much culture multure, tree hugging going on here.

The guy lands at Swampy, gets one of those smart suited b*tches hanging about in arrivals and tell her "Limo - Patters - now" and just roll with it from there.

Wats, elephants!, see one, seen em all.

Ooops, sorry only joking, yes Phra Nakhon Si Ayuthaya, very nice Chedi's and you can see an elephant or two.

Over here in Si Thep we have our 'Historical park' where you can walk over an interesting pile of Khymer ruins.

Yes truely amazing Thailand.

Your in Tokyo easy flight so can come again, first trip full 10 days up north. Then come back in 6 months and spend time in Bangkok, come back in 6 months go to Kanchaniburi for some this way you donot wast time traveling around from one place to another.
