HERE WE GO!

Don’t let the immigration fool you around, they try hard to bring you down.

Just show the rec docs and make sure you have printed 2 copies of everything.

Take a cue number and wait for your time. Show the officers what you have.

Sign some Immigrations docs and off you go. Wait for about 4 weeks and come back.

Remark: Your wife must follow you and sign some docs too!

FYI: 400.000 Baht in Thai bank account prior to 2 - 3 months is required also!

OR: 40.000 Baht of income if you work in Thailand.

Photo: 6 x 4 not older than 6 months.

Bank statement: not older then 7 days.

Fee: 1900 Baht.

Good luck.

Thank you for your report, Billion.

For the record, that was for an annual extension of stay for the reason of living with your Thai wife (marriage extension). Two copies of everything is required at immigration offices outside Bangkok; in Bangkok (Chaeng Watthana), one copy will do.

In 20 years I've never found immigration officers to be dishonest, rude, or trying to bring me down. They have a set of rules and if you abide by them, and are polite, (and may be use whatever Thai language skills you have), you'll find them to also be polite and helpful. Your average I/O can't bend or break the rules (as imposed by their bosses) to suit you.

1) I understood proof of 40,000 per month whether income within Thailand or thro a Pension letter if the money was coming from outside Thailand (ie Pension income).

2) If coming from outside via Pension, do you have to show monthly deposits into your Thai Bank Account or will the letter suffice.

Anyone confirm?

If from abroad, you need a income statement from your embassy.

Thanks for that PoorSucker! You got everything needed for the one year marriage stay.

As maestro says; only one copy if you live in Bangkok and applying at CW.

Reason why I wrote: (Imm fool you around) is because the photo thing.

Every renewal year they ask for 5-6 photos of me and my wife together at home.

They must have about 20-25 photos now filed in my file folder.

Why are they asking for this dam photos every year!

Posted

I don’t think so while many couple like us has been together for many years, don’t they have more important things to do then fooling around with the photo thing.

This is not a law to bring photos every year, isn’t it!

Posted

Indeed, there is no such law, but there is this requirement in paragraph 2.18 of Police Order 777/2551:

2.18 In the case of being a family member of a Thai national (applicable only to parents, spouse, children, adopted children, or spouse’s children):

...

(3) In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto

...

Therefore, if an immigration officer wants to see photos, that’s what an applicant has to bring. Other immigration officers visit the applicant's residence unannounced, or ask a lot of questions of his neighbours, or ask the applicant to bring the village headman along to the immigration office, etc. However, it is not for the applicant to chose.

I donot understand why people have such a hard time following the rules. No country in the world allows you to show up and live without some sort of qualifying requirement and no matter what is said on TV I doubt there are many as easy as Thailand to qualify for some sort of visa.

Thanks Maestro! I understand your points. Yes the first year we had the Imm officers at our home to check that we live together and then nothing happen for about 3 years. When we moved from Bangkok to Samut Prakan the officers at SP start to ask for photos together at home. We have provided at least 6 photos every year now for 4 years and they have all the photos filed so why can’t they check back in my file folder as all the photos are already there!

Moe666! I don’t have a hard time following the rules. Why I have to bring the same photos every year, you tell me! Photos are from the same house, same living room, same kitchen, same bedroom, and the same garden every year. No change, the same living and the same wife!

Billon not pointing you out just the many who cannot be bothered. Yes you know the same house same wife but the new immigration hire or transfer from Bangkok may not know this. Good luck

Thanks moe666! Of cause they know everything; they get all the info’s from the personal file folder.

Why they don’t check backwards in my file folder, there are the photos from the beginning of our marriage. (Imm fooling you around again)

Immigration offices outside Bangkok sending the docs to CW in Bangkok and then sending back to the offices outside Bangkok. (4 weeks) 2 copies of everything and 6 photos X 2 for CW and the outside offices = 12 photos every year. Oh my god!
