Then of course that had me digging out some of my other favorites from the group.

As a lad growing up in Yorkshire i knew there were only 2 places on the east coast of England that could be considered as decent seaside towns, Scarborough and Whitby. Go south of there and you just hit mud flats until you get to Sussex.

If there are any Skegness expats on this forum , I'll tell you now, I've seen the 20's poster with the fat bast..d running along the beach exclaiming about the 'breeze'

- well, let me tell you, if the best you can say about your seaside resort is, ' the wind is so bracing,' you're in serious trouble.

My point is when i first heard the Simon and Garfunkel song Scarborough Fair, I realized there must be a place in the USA with the same name as the illustrious Yorkshire seaside town.

Now why would the pilgrims and pioneers, fleeing religious persecution and economic hardship, on reaching the promised land of the USA, name their settlements after places in countries they'd fled? Was it a nationalistic thing, the English pioneers wanting to stake their claim- New York, New Hampshire. There were lots of Germans too, why no New Hanover etc? or is there? please excuse my ignorance American cousins.

I know one thing, after fleeing the savage conditions of the East Riding of Yorkshire in the early 70s, I'd be damned if I'd name any new settlement in Udon Thani province as ' New Doncaster'.

Not normally the sort of music I listen to, but had forgotten what a voice this guy had, also an under rated guitar player.

Wow that was so good, best have some more, amazing slide solo, great stuff.

BN, Skeggy, its so boring.

Isnt Mabelthorpe up that way as well, another dump best avoided. LOL, thanks for the memories.

Nakhon Pontefract.

Sounds kind of nice.

In reality Pontefract is as far from nice as its possible to t.

,

Don't forget Cleethorpes, Grimethorpe ( true name)-in fact is there any decent place with the word 'thorpe' in its name?

Just watched the movie "Wild" and had a hit of nostalgia with this song playing in it.

And this one...

Sorry S6, cant have that, Pontefract had a nice little race course from what I remember, certainly way better than Catterick, my personal favourite was Market Rasen, think at one time it held the record for the number of favourites winning.

Anyway onto another story of my misspent youth, years ago I had a job that took me all over the UK, one wet windy night we ended up in Newmarket, was trying to watch football on the telly of some Hi So pub, some Irish lass I could barely understand was hassling me, my chat up line was along the lines of, "ferk off you dozy cow I am trying to watch the football on here", her reply was something like, "well drink up and get yer coat, you have pulled.

Just for the record, I am over six foot, she was a stable lass and well under 5 foot.

Never mind, as Bob Seger once sang,

We weren't in love oh no far from it

We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit

........

I used her she used me

But neither one cared

We were getting our share

It would have been too easy to quote Bon Scott,

Never had a woman

Never had a woman like you

Doin' all the things

Doin' all the things you do

What a pair of thighs that woman had, Newmarket, it was like Land Of The Giants.

Enough of the poncy crap above, this is Motorhead as we know and love them.

I guess it could pass for another cheesy Christmas song, at a push sad.png

A world better -

Just found this on YT.

Classic early 80's UK Ska live - The Beat.

I have seen Prince play in concert three times - outstanding.

A bit in a hippy mood today

Sweet Smoke - Just a poke
