Guess everyone is so well off it won't matter about the price of rice and silly stuff like that going through the roof. And if it gets tough, vex ye not, farang can pay even more, always has done in the past! I'm so excited, what an economic miracle Thailand is!!So many new tourists, just look at the figures!!! I'm so excited. I'm off to tell Mommy the good news. It's all so perfect!!

I'm afraid its mostly true. You forgot also to mention the Thai stock exchange has increased 20% plus in last few months- one of the world's best performing exchanges. Check out the investment sub forum here, you will see that there's many of us taking full advantage. I have made a 37% return on my cash in the SET since February. Its happening dude:)

tend to agree, not sure why we westerners think we know it all when all we seem to do is pile up more debt. and how does the worlds biggest borrower qualify as the worlds biggest economy. Thailand seems to be in order on that basis

True- and as far as i know , no Thai banks went bankrupt in the last 2 years during the crisis compared to 100s in the US/ UK.

Yes, the world's biggest borrower should not be the bench mark. Given that they borrow from a private bank. At least England borrows from a nationally owned entity not some private chancers!

Thais on a personal level often show very little money savvy, but coporately they have stones the size of water mellons! the few families that control 80%of the show know how to retain wealth in small pockets and make that select group richer and richer.

Looking at the bigger picture they might be less than perfect. But in respect of propping up an economy in the eyes of the world and the pockets of the bold few, they are winners.

i am a novice

what economic advantages does thailand have that the usa doesn't?

stronger exports? expanding production base? financial stability? is thailand signifigcantly less in debt?

what economic problems do these countries share?

what economic problems does thailand have that the states don't?

other considerations?

my take is that that the economy is truly now global

meaning that a sneeze in new york effects tokyo
