To Tornado And Boon Mee

Featured Replies

Here is an interesting little conundrum to ponder over:

Imagine you are president of the USA and your intelligence services inform you that Saudi Arabia has signed an "oil for nukes" agreement with Pakistan, similar to the "nukes for missiles deal" Pakistan already has with North Korea.

What contingency plans do you take to protect American interests and maintain world peace?

Do not forget that Saudi Arabia is also the home of Osama bin Laden plus King Fahd is near death, and his designated successor, Crown Prince Abdullah, is known to be more actively hostile to American foreign policy, and more sympathetic to militant Wahhabi Sunni currents in the Islamic world.

If I was Boon, I would open another chang and drop some ice in it.

If I was torny I would gather my clubs and head to the golf course (we all know what torny is like after a few *changs*)

Here is an interesting little conundrum to ponder over:

Imagine you are president of the USA and your intelligence services inform you that Saudi Arabia has signed an "oil for nukes" agreement with Pakistan, similar to the "nukes for missiles deal" Pakistan already has with North Korea.

What contingency plans do you take to protect American interests and maintain world peace?

clarify your hypothetical situation a little for us please thomas.

exactly what was the source of information for the 'intelligence services ' to come for this conclusion ... multiple verifiable documents , tape recorings and photos .. or a tip off from a 'friendly 'intelligence service ?

and which company will get the contracts to provide the infrastructure for the proposed exchange ? haliburton ? :o

Thomas, even I can tell you're a little confused as to what side of the fence Boon and Torn are on.

A closed mouth...

This is a good topic, because it raises a very valid point.

If Iran gets the Bomb, then Saudi has to get one too. Possibly Syria also.

In response to the specific question, I think USA would say that it will agree to put Saudi under its nuclear umbrella if it were threatened, rather than permitting them to proliferate.

For arguments sake, let's say "a senior Pakistani journalist" is the principal source.

Great topic, good challenge, let's here the responses..................

No overt Trolling allowed here, lampard & Mr. Merton.. :D

BTW, I'm taking Leith's suggestion and going for another brewski... :o

Who's trolling?

This is an invitation to an intelligent debate to two of the most prolific writers on Thaivisa (nearly 6000 postings together).

Are we to believe you both have a bad hair day?

Good suggestion, Darknight.

C'mon over here Mr. Merton and we can better explore your hypothesis. :D

Although I believe it to be 2 nukes during WWII, do you think that it would have ended the war any quicker if the US had not done this. Maybe a better question would be: Do you believe that it saved more ALLIED forces by dropping these bombs. It's not a cut and dry world. You seem to be at least a couple of years older than I and I for one, would have thought you or at least your parents were happy to see the WAR end sooner than later. War is not a pretty thing and this war on terrorism is hurting everyone. I just think that the muslim religion ITSELF needs to do more to get the respect from the rest of the world that THEY are not just turning a BLIND EYE to what is happenning. :o

With all due respect - and at the risk of getting this thread closed - we are being constantly bombarded with a right/left discussion on matters that have nothing to do with Thailand, in a thread in Bedlam (and before anyone remarks “you don’t have to read it then”, let me say that this exhibitionism is clearly the posters' intention – for why else are they posting here and not PMing each other?)

This (these) thread(s) have subjects loosely based on the London bombings and terrorism, events and actions in which people have lost, or will loose their lives. Events in which hundreds of professionals are giving all their time and efforts to either help the victims or prevent future attacks.

The two challenged have been amusing themselves and others in their testosterone contest, professing knowledge in these affairs and showing, IMHO, little respect for the victims.

I do have a little knowledge in these matters - although for this I have been called patronising (amongst other things) - this is of no consequence.

All I wish to demonstrate is that in all areas of foreign policy and the security, or preservation of world peace, there requires a little more brain power than that exercised clipping and pasting, and then denigrating, other writers ideas.

I agree up to a point. What I was trying to get across is that Bush's holier than thou attitude is all wrong. If you stop and think about it a little, Sadam Hussien had more constitutional right to march into Washington and demand to see the USA's weapons of mass destuction, than Bush had to attack Iraq. After all we know they have them, and WILL USE them if the need arises against anyone that gets in their way. We don't know if Iraq has them,or will use them . Okay I agree Saddam was probably a monster, but only to his own people, who, incidently have lost their hate of Saddam and now hate the man who freed them. In fact the whole world is in greater turmoil through countries sticking their noses in where it is not wanted. So there.

It seems as the merton is upset that we are stealing his thread and the main combatents don't seem to want to play his game so I'll bow out. As you and I seem to totally disagree or you do not want to play my game then we should both leave this. Pm me with your thoughts of what your parents would have thought about what was done during WWII. What is going on now is totally different. Your opinion of what the iragi people think is a little hard for me to swallow but then this discussion should be in the pitt along with mertons post.

You wish to expand on those two points? hmmmmm

At least we're not trolling for Gays... :D

ok, lets a have stab at it. Perhaps you would have to fabricate some terrorist attack linked to Saudi Arabia, throw tons of propaganda at your own people so they back the war, and then invade and take control of the country?

How would that pan out do you think?

You wish to expand on those two points?  hmmmmm

I will gladly do so, when the time comes.

However the challange is to you, not me.

I stlll see no response to the conundrum.

At least we're not trolling for Gays... :o

Should this statement be true (maybe it is), the actions of Gays are baste upon the principal of love - even at it simplest, physical love.

Can one say this about the acts of war or terrorism?

I doubt you ever consider your opinion to be humble Mr Merton. :D

Alas, perhaps you are right - wouldn't it be nice if this humility you seek could be found in all posters?

(Yawning)---------Bearpit please.  :o

That's what I say but not too successful getting one Mr. Merton over there as yet. So, here's one final shot at those appeasers & enablers reading this thread:

Terrorist gang 'used military explosives'

A SINGLE bombmaker using high-grade military explosives is believed to be responsible for building the four devices that killed more than 50 people last week, The Times can reveal.

Similar components from the explosive devices have been found at all four murder sites, leading detectives to believe that each of the 10lb rucksack bombs was the work of one man. They also believe that the materials used were not home made but sophisticated military explosives, possibly smuggled into Britain from the Balkans...

Read the whole thing.
