August 24, 201015 yr Hey all. Im thinking of doing a six month stay in Bangkok Yai. I get a good deal on a 45sqm condo, 25meter swimmingpool and great fitnesscenter with free weights etc. But im worried i go crazy from boredom in the area, there are always taxis if you get bored i guess, should be a 20 min ride into the "Center". But it would have been nice with some local action going on. Anyone lived in Bangkok Yai before? what can you say about the area? are there any supermarkets, cinemas, bars or clubs etc? I know about the temples and such in the area, but that feels like a one time experiance and then they loose interest.
August 25, 201015 yr Spent a few months there... plenty of food places naturally. Not any Farang like places- it all Thai style. And better to be able to speak Thai or you will probably die from boredom- otherwise u wishing for a cultural emmersion experience to develop your Thai better. There are Thai type girly places- karoke and massage pallor type. Yet no Farang girly type where u pick up from a bar. There was a nightclub with no Farang- so u need to be able to speak Thai is best. Hey what Farang competition do you have- none. You a novielty. Yet you get bored of being a novielty after a while I have found- sometimes u need communication from people from your homeland or you can go insane. Bus, Taxi, tut tut to goto the more touristy or expat locations when needed. Plus it very cheap- u will save a few 1000 bt pm. Chok Dee J
August 25, 201015 yr People in general, are so friendly in this country. Yes, some approach you only because you are a foreigner with money. But the vast majority approach you only because you are a foreigner (curiosity). If you go to a Thai bar in BKK, there will guarantied be some that speak English. Raise your glass to the people by the next table you sit at, and say cheers, and smile. You will see the positive responds immediately. Nomatter if they are guys or gals. After all, it is friends first of all you look for, right? You will soon find out how amazingly easy it is to befriend Thais, men and women. As soon as you have a few friends, they will bring you everywhere. Try it.
August 25, 201015 yr I have lived In Bangkok Yai for many years but the word is out and I have lost my franchise on being the only farang in the village , move over here it is great with some really nice little bars and restaurants some good gyms and great little markets and it is not far from the city centre so if you crave foreign style entertainment only a short taxi ride awaits.
