I agree with the sentiments of the opening posting.

I would also like to take this opportunity to ask the various mods who may be reading this thread to consider whether or not it may be time to crack the whip again.  The relaxed atmosphere here in Bedlam has led to a resurgence of homophobic remarks (most notably in the thread which this thread is discussing), which has also spilled over into the gay forum (see, for example, the current "Born Gay" thread) in an alarming way.  Some people simply *will* keep trying to push until they are pushed back.  I don't mind seeing bargirl threads and political threads and so forth here, but I hope Bedlam isn't going to become a slag-for-all zone.

"Steven"

Are you saying that Thomas Merton's thread "A New Forum, What Do Yoy Think?

" contains homophobic remarks?

I don't see it. I have copied and pasted the entilre contents of the thread below:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

A New Forum, What Do Yoy Think?

----------------------------------

In this new forum, all of us real men can joke about the nonces without any liberals or fairies telling us to be PC.

-------------

I've always taken 'nonce' to be a slang term for paedophile? Perhaps you should clarify TM.

Thom, you are pushing the boundaries here. Please ease up on the gay thing mate. This thread is now closed.

This does not seem homophobic to me. Is this the thread you find objectionable?...it is the thread which is the topic of this thread as indicated in the original post.

geez, this is turning into a parliament debate. :o:D

Oops... no we were not. :D

In that case I apologise for anything that I have posted on this thread. Too bloody lazy to click on the link and made an incorrect assumption.

:D

Tornado et al: I don't think my comments need any further explanation, and yes, I'm referring to the closed thread with the survey which this thread was responding to.

Huski: Yeah, I wouldn't want to "chill" things too much here- just hope the "trustworthy" posters can manage a bit of restraint. I can see how there'd be a certain temptation to make this the place to have a go at gays since they'll get promptly slapped down if they do so in the "regular" forums.

Totster: Point taken! Not sure what Jayenram really had in mind, but he did have the sense to close the thread.

I come under the 'et al' category above. You certainly don't need to explain your comments if you don't want to, however if you give me no explanation then there is no way I can try to stop offending you. What is so ironic here is that the post that you find objectionable was making a strong anti-homophobe statement and the style of your post will add fuel to the homophobic fire. Life is strange.

This whole thread seems to be much ado about nothing.

Folks post 'stuff' and if that 'stuff' is found objectionable to the majority, it's removed by one of the mods who cruise thru here.

Example: Erco posts of late. The majority drummed that cat right outa here... :o

I am totally confused . What thread are you discussing here.

If you are talking about Jayes "odd" thread then it is still open.

He couldn't ask to close it even if he had wanted to because he was banned
