No the fishing competition was the day before which was won by a Thai with 30 fish weight 170kgs we falang have no chance against the Thai's.

very pleased with the Mekong I think I am the only one that fishes for them and catches regularly.

Sawai lake is okay but contains mainly small fish with the odd few above 20kgs, as for tackle because of the few bigish fish min 30lb line strongish rod, any reel will cope with Sawai.

From Chalong it is simple. go straight past Central festival carry on straight untill you come to the lights with Tesco Lotus on the right, carry straight on up the by pass road untill you reach the top bear left, carry on untill you come to a large Izuzu dealer on the left. look over to the right and you will see the sign for the lake, turn round at the next u turn then left down the track to the lake on the right.

if you use there tackle and bait it will coat you 1000 for the day.

Not bad fishing, but 1000 baht for falangs, and only 200 for thais no way will i ever go there again. french owner ripping other falangs off grrrr.

I totally agree but it is the only decent lake to go fishing on this Island.

Do they let you keep any fish to eat or is it all "Wound and release?" Maybe a little saltwater fishing is in order.

THX for the tips. I think that i"ll go there next week to see what kind of place is that.

That higher costs for farangs really sucks, but what can do...

I should write something about Phukets fishing possibilitiesto finnish fishing magazines. Will see if that Sawai is worth for. Are there fishermens every day cause i need some pictures too.

I WAS a member at Sawai Lake-also known as Phuket Fishing Park. I paid 2500baht which entitled me to use 2 rods for unlimited fishing for one calender month which is ok.( know someone paid more for this membership) this pond have dual pricing- 200baht for Thais and whatever amount they can get from farang 600baht to 1000baht. And I know of "tourists" have paid more-just here for holiday and don't mind or can't be bother over a few hundred baht difference- as they just want to fish for one time.

The normal charge for "farang" is 600baht but for rental of rod(200baht) and bait(200baht expensive) whether this is fair price or not is argumentative as I understand any business entity have to make money. I used to fish at this pond very often but I stopped cause I got fed up with their attitude.Recently I went there to meet some friends and to do a bit of fishing, they wanted to charge me 1000baht and I had my own tackle. Told them I don't fish then they came down to 600baht. Many fishing ponds have dual pricing but Sawai Lake don't even have standard dual pricing.

It's catch and release.

I am not happy with the duel pricing here but we are living in Thailand and duel pricing is part of life here, you have to remember fishing in the UK is far far more expensive than the 600 bht they charge at Sawai, for me it is the only decent place to fish on this Island, everytime I go there I catch between 15 and 25 fish and in my last 4 visits have caught a Mekong which are rarely caught there so again 600 bht is not expensive for us, but I do whole heartedly agree that it is not good that we have to pay 3 times more than the Thais, go there enjoy your day and remember most Thai's earn 100 bht to 250 bht a day so who is really laughing at who!!!!!!

Yes I do agree with you on your point that Thai earns much less. And I agree too when one open a business it is to maximise earnings. If you don't agree then don't fish and as you posted this is the only CnR pond on the whole island so it's an exclusive business haha. But dual pricing is one thing but the management-if there is one-will try to fleece you as much as they could get away with There is not even ONE pricing for farang. But at the end of the day dual pricing, sad to say,is a common practice and if one don't like it then don't go.
