After making my 1st purchase online with my new c.card from Siam Bank (quite difficult with added hoops to jump through). The card actually says 'King Power' in the upper left corner ...yikes - it was either that or AIS. I went in to my bank and looked for my usual assistant (the only worker there who speaks ok English and can think). She wasn't there, so I posed my question to another employee. The question: Are the payments (from me, to reimburse the c.card company) automatic (from my account) or do I need to come in and make those payments?

She said 'yes.' So (this being Thailand), I re-phrased my question several more times (to make sure she fully understood what I was asking) - and she kept on smiling and saying 'yes.' Well, surprise: The correct answer should have been 'NO.' I now find that reimbursements are not automatic, and must be paid in person.

I get my first account statement in the mail, and surprise #2, the % for the outstanding balance was due just before the letter arrived. So, because of the faulty advice from the pretty smiling worker at the bank, I obliged to pay Bt.400+ extra (for interest) on a charge of Bt.2,200 I made for an air ticket the month before.

So it goes in land of smiles: all is image, litte substance. It's like that gargantuan steel and glass, very cold, train terminal in Bangkok designed to wisk travelers from downtown to Swampy airport. It's cold and empty. No customers, indeed, 99% of everyone (including taxi drivers) either don't know it exists - or don't know where it is).
