Water level In Poh Talay has also exceeded the maximum level by 34 centimeters, inundating the whole municipality.

PAD's four-point stand on reconciliation

The People's Alliance for Democracy has outlined four key factors to bring about reconciliation, its leader Sondhi Limthongkul said on Wednesday following his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart.

The four factors are:

1. Uphold the rule of law. The litigations linked to the turmoil, including those involving the PAD and ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, must be resolved through the judicial process. Thaksin must stop undermining the rule of law, directly by resorting to violence and indirectly by using the political party to fix his legal predicament. The PAD is determined to fight all charges and will accept the judicial decision.

2. Uphold the monarchy. All activities deemed offensive to the country's revered institution must cease.

3. Root out courruption. To achieve this, politicians must reform themselves because most graft violations have stemmed from politicians.

4. Oppose amnesty. The PAD suspects the amnesty bill has an ulterior motive to absolve officials involved in the botched operations to rein in protesters. Under the draft article 6, all officials responsible for the crowd control will be pardoned and shielded from prosecution.

Suthep to call urgent meeting on Somkid issue

BANGKOK (NNT) -- Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban will seek an urgent meeting of the Police Commission to discuss the promotion of Pol Lt Gen Somkid Boonthanom to an Assistant Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police.

Mr Suthep stated that he would seek a permission from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to urgently convene the meeting after the notorious appointment of Police Lieutenant General Somkid had led to a series of strained diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.

Pol Lt Gen Somkid is one of the five suspects in the disappearance of Saudi business executive Mohammand al-Ruwaili from Thailand 20 years ago. It was reported that he would give a press conference on Wednesday at 10.00 hrs about this issue.

The Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that the Government had followed lawful regulations in making any decision; however, if Pol Lt Gen Somkid was thinking of other ways out, he would raise the issue to the Police Commission for reconsideration.

Asked if the announced promotion order for Pol Lt Gen Somkid by the Police Commission could be changed, Mr Suthep responded that he would discuss this topic in the Police Commission meeting this Friday.
