Never had a touch screen phone so any advice on the best one to get, Have seen Iphone 4 but much to expensive for me, so any other phones around the 10,000 bht mark.

Buying any smartphone other than android and iPhone will be a big waste if your looking for the kind of always connected apps running phone.

I prefer android.. But theres strong opinions on both sides.

nokia n97,better than listed above.gps works well when lost.

Take a look at the Nokia C6, a real nice one... Well below the 10,000 mark.

Personally I would go for the new Nokia N8. It is still symbian but that isnt a great deal unles you are interested in installing lots of apps which the iphone is great at. I would have thought that most casual users of phones arent interested in the operating system they are more interested in the everyday features such as usability, sat nav, camera, storage and games.

If you want quality key features it is probably going to be the best available.

The Nokia N8 comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation which dont require network coverage.

12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash

16GB of in-built storage space, expandable up to 48GB

HD quality film and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound

How about the HTC Wildfire in comparision?

HTC wildfire cannot compete with the N8 in any area except price and operating system.

I overlooked the fact the you were looking for a 10,000 baht phone which I dont think the N8 will be available for, more like 15,000 to 20,000. If you do find it for 14,000 give me a shout.

I have an N97 32GB and N95 8GB for sale if anyone is interested.

As have hints on phone for birthday from the young ones have been doing some checking recently and for the 10k range price believe the HTC Wildfire is the best choice.

I read the reviews from cnet for the N8 and they didn't really like it compared to other phones. They give quite a few reasons why but basically they said the Symbian operating system was cumbersome, had a lot of popups, and it took a lot of extra steps to get to things compared to other operating systems.

The specs and features look good though.

I cant imagine why anyone would recommend a symbian phone for a smartphone these days.. N97 ?? Compared to an android or iOS platform.. Just miles behind.

Nokia have made good hardware.. But they totally missed the boat on the OS updates.. Its 3 year stock chart from 40 to 10 shows the world has realized this. They still make great tough little 'phone' phones.. But touchscreen smartphones ??

Loads of people say this but the majority of users wouldnt have a clue what OS there phone is running. What they will notice though is that their sat nav doesnt work when they have no phone signal or when they take a picture in the dark (or light) its crap quality or when they want to store movies on their phone they dont have enough storage.

Either way look at what is most important to you...OS, Looks, Apps, Camera, SatNav etc then buy the best option.

I have not got a clue what you are on about OS this and OS that, maybe a touch complicated phone is not for me, looks, camara and easy of operation is all I want.

Well Apple has it's own operating system (you know like Windoze)

So Google decided it wanted to compete in this space.

Nokia use Symbian. Android is Googles open OS - used on HTC Samsung & other smartphones.

You know like touchscreen - drag & drop etc.

Thanks a nice simple explanation, so in your opinion to someone that has never used one of these phones what would be the best choice, all I want is, good camara, good sound, MP3 etc ease of operation texting etc. maybe games possibly email and possibly GPS.

If looks camera and phone are all you need.. Then go get a simple sony ericson cybershot phone. Dont have the drabacks of a large touchscreen.

These large touchscreen phones have battery life measured in hours, my last sony was days if not a week. The sony took better pictures (especially at night with its xenon flash) etc.. And was droppable and tough.

However for going online.. Doing email.. Internet wifi hotspot (try that apple / Nokia).. Apps.. Syncing with facebook / picasa / flickr / etc.. Running stock market tickers or trading platforms.. Or whatever else a smartphone is doing.. Its not the tool.

This is my point exactly, if you are looking for hardware then dont worry about symbian, android and all that. Look at the quality of the camera, sat nav, storage and looks etc.

Which leads straight back to the N8 ...which reports a huge battery usage as well. Using its HDMI to watch movies on your TV you supposedly get 7 hours of use, 400 hours in standby and up to 12 hours talk time. Starting to sound like a Nokia salesman...I will stop now....

Dont agree personally.. A smartphone is only as good as its apps..

For example you say look at its GPS.. How many GPS apps are there on symbian ?? With Thai maps ?? If you talk about iOS and Android you have 10's of options globally for mapping solutions.. Even here in Thailand you have multiples (tomtom, nDrive, etc) any minute now we expect to have the garmin app released on android.

The camera.. Can you load photoshop mobile onto symbian ??

With a smartphone its ALL about its expandability.. Its about customizing it for your needs and NOT being fixed with what the phone does out of the box, and to do that you need a large dev community and really that means currently android phones or Apple phones (win series 7 phones being an unknown at this stage).

I have nothing against conventional phones.. Nokia make some solid units.. As do Sony (I like their cybershots had 3 of them over the years) but once going to a smartphone then its all about the apps and expandability.
