webfact Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 No changes planned: PM By The Nation Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday dismissed a report about looming changes in political camps, saying it was just speculation and only he and coalition parties had the power to make such decisions. The report comes in the wake of the dissolution case involving the ruling Democrat party. The PM said neither he nor coalition parties were concerned about political manoeuvring by fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra. "No one can make it happen because only I and the coalition can jointly make this decision." He said the government would not be able to achieve national reconciliation if it compromised with people who broke the law. He rejected a proposal by red-shirt leader Veera Musikapong that all red-shirt leaders be released on bail as the first step towards reconciliation. Such decisions were up to the courts. "If a court believe they won't stir up trouble after they are released, there is the chance they will be released," he said. Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul rejected reports the Bhum Jai Thai Party would be kicked out of the coalition, saying the coalition was still united. Asked why every political party was active with election campaigns - as if a national poll was imminent, Chaovarat said it was common for parties to be ready for an election. "No one knows when it is going to rain. Sometimes it looks like it is going to rain but there is no rain,'' he said. -- The Nation 2010-10-11
