Hi, I've been reading the stickies and would like to know what do I do to get a tourist visa. Im british and 28, do I have to go the embassy to apply because thats in london and im not sure I can be bothered to be honest. I checked on the site and downlaoded the visa form but then I read they dont accept visa applications by post :/

Could I just go to Thailand for 30 days, cross a border and go to malaysia for a few days then come back for 15 more days? I want to spend 2 months (maybe more) in Thailand. How time consuming is it to do that? Would it take all day?

Thanks in advance

Apply by mail at the consulate in Hull, no problem.

Without a visa you would need proof you leave Thailand within 30 days, otherwise the airline might refuse you.

Hi thanks for the reply. If I go to thailand for 30 days but have a flight leave singapore in 60 days would that be ok? I was probably going to head south instead through malaysia

Where do you think is better to spend xmas and new year? Thai or Malaysia.

Hey guys, I only realised 2 days ago after readin a canadian website that if you leave the country every 2 months and apply for a multiple entry visa you can stay in thailand for up to 6 motnhs :)

i sent my visa app off a few days ago and it arrived today, 4 month visa 2 entries, plus from may11th 2010 - march 31 2011 all tourist visa fees have been waived so i got it for free :)

so can i go to thailand and have a ticket for australia from singapore 4 motnhs later and have no problems? can i just cross into malysia after 2 months and come back over land now i have this visa?

Without a flight ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days you need a Visa.

For a Brit at least, this isn't correct (or at least, thats what the embassy in Taipei will tell you)

You can enter Thailand without an onbound ticket to get the 30 day tourist stamp. However, if you want to apply for the 60 day visa, you do need to show an outbound flight (seems kinda stupid).

Before I started getting 60 day visas, I used to always come here on a single ticket, as I never knew where I wanted to go next :)

It is true and has nothing to do with any Consulate. The airline can refuse to even fly you without a visa or onward travel within 30 days of visa exempt stamp for UK passport. The ticket requirement is from Taipei and is often only applied for third country nationals. As far as Thailand Immigration is concerned you do not need onward ticket if you have a visa for entry.

A two entry tourist visa would normally only provide 60 day entry for each - but you could extend an extra 30 days so one exit at 3 months would cover a six month stay. Each extension of stay would cost 1,900 baht at local Immigration office.

I am so confused and seem to be running around in circles. I am due to go to Thailand in a couple of weeks, as yet I have no visa. I thought (maybe naively) that I could just hop on a plane at London on a one way ticket to Bangkok and then just sign for a 30 day visa on the plane then apply for an extended visa once in Thailand?

Thanks in advance for any help or clearance on this matter

Without a visa, the most likely problem is the airline not allowing you to fly without a visa, or an outbound or return ticket. What you would receive is a "Visa Exempt" entry upon arrival and the only extension would be for 7 days. If you are interested in staying longer than 30 days, perhaps better to apply for a Tourist Visa at Hull or some other consulate. Each Tourist Visa entry would be for 60 days and can be extended for another 30 days for 1900 Baht. if interested in a longer a stay, you can apply for a double or triple entry Tourist Visa.

The immigration requirements for entry into Thailand are being in possession of either an airline ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival or a valid visa. As you plan to stay more than 30 days, best you apply for a tourist visa before travelling which, as said, would give 60 days permission to stay on entry and can be extended for further 30 days at local immmigration office (fee 1,900 baht).

Thanks a lot all for the info. Having to fly back to UK (living in Spain just now)and will either use Hull Thai Consul (by post) or appear at Royal Thai in London, as we will be flying from there anyway, and if you apply before May 2011 it's free. Only thing I don't understand is that they state not all airlines will let you board if you only have a one-way ticket?

Once again thanks

Tourist Visas are free until March 31st.

The airline is responsible if you do not meet the Visa requirements and are refused entry. They are fined and have to take you back home.

Once again thanks all for your help! We now have our visas (3 entry) and fly to Bangkok tomorrow arriving on Saturday!! Am I correct in thinking that once i get to Bangkok I get a pre paid taxi, (shown on one of the boards)? I am headed for Pattaya. Finding a decent cheapish hotel via net is proving hard!!

Once Again thanks!!

Off topic but you will find it cheaper to get a Pattaya Taxi company to meet you at the airport.

I have used these with no problems, but there are others. Book online.

I have used PT taxi twice before & can only recommend them.

Been here 2 weeks now, the time has went quickly yet Spain seems a life time ago! A beautiful country with kind and gentle people. Ist week I was in Jomtien this week I am in an apartment in Pratanmuk and next month will find a condo in Pattaya.

I had no problem with a one-way ticket. I wasn't stopped or questioned. This is of course possibly due to the fact that I had a triple entry stamp on my passport.

Once I got to the immigration desk I went through without a glance from the guy on the desk. He did however stamp my visa and on it I have ADMITTED UNTIL 1 March 2011. So guys am I correct in saying that I will need to go to the immigration office and get it stamped again for another two months?

Once again thanks in advance

You arrived around 5th Feb. You say you have a Tourist visa.

You should be stamped to around 5th April not 1st March.

Each entry give's a stay of 60 days. Each entry can be extended at Immigration for a further 30 days. Fee 1,900 Baht.

After that you have to leave the country and re enter to activate your next Visa Entry.

Did you put your Visa number on your arrival card?

Did the Immigration Officer write anything on your Visa?

The way things stand at the moment you have to leave the Country before 1st March and return to get 60 more days

Ooops my mistake!! It is dated 5th April and my departure card is also stamped 5th April and only passport number on the arrival card. Only thing that seems to be written on my passport is the flight number and his signature.,

A few days before 5th April you can go to Immigration and get a 30 day extension. 1,900 Baht.

Or you leave the Country and return to activate your second entry and get 60 days.

Hi all - I'm coming over tuesday from London.

Embassy tell me (on phone) it is 2 days to get a tourist visa now, so I go in Monday, get visa wednesday, which is no good for me.

I thought it used to be 1 day ?

Do you think if I go in and ask nicely they will get it for me next day ?

Normally two days means submit day one in morning and pick up day two in afternoon. A bit over 24 hours in most cases.
