Is there anybody who knows if it is possible to receive Astro satellite TV channels from Malaysia in Pattaya.

I can easily get hold of legal subscription, decoder and card from Malaysia but my question is more if Pattaya is still in the coverage area of the satellite and if so what kind of dish and LNB would I need...?

No problem at all for the reception.

There is a company in Bangkok which can arange the subscriptions for you as well as the installation of the equipment!

http://www.satthai.net/th/astro_.htm

Prices are in Thai Baht, and they seem very reasonable. The Movie super package combined with 3 minipackages would set you back a tad over 1000 Baht/month (they quote for 3, 6, or 12 months)

Any idea what size dish would be needed for Pattaya ??

Looking at the Measat footprint seems to suggest they deliberatly avoid Thailand :o

You'll most probably need a 4ft solid dish and a low noise LNB.

Alternatively, an 8ft mesh dish with good LNB will get good reception.

I receive the Agila2 satellite perfectly with an 8ft mesh dish, and the Agila's footprint doesn't even come close to Singapore (It's aimed at the Philipines)

The system is designed to be received with the small 60cm solid dishes combined with cheap low cost LNB's, same as UBC uses. If outside the footprint you'll need a higher gain (=bigger) dish and a better (more expensive) LNB...

I have talked to the guy's at "Satthai" and they would be willing to make installation in Pattaya area. They could also supply Astro decoder and card. They suggested a 10 ft dish

My only concern now is that they said that they could not guarrantee that I should be able to receive all Astro's channels.

Is there anybody out there with experience from "Astro" in Pattaya who could help me out and tell me if there is any problems....?

I have an 8ft moveable dish with a high gain LNB.

I'll move it over to the measat and see what signal strenth I get!

If all is well I should get signal followed by the "scrambled" message!

Just out of curiosity Monty what ( make and model) is your satellite receiver ?

is it a C band dish with combined C and KU band feed or just KU band ?

Back home in blighty I have 2 Nokia 9600s receivers that could be put to very good use here ...if only the size of the dishes needed to receive anything but UBC weren't so astranomical !!!!!!!!!!!

Also, would you happen to know if Dream Tv is using the Nagravision 1 or 2 encryption standard ??

Sorry for all the questions satellite TVRO,used to be one of my hobbies.....

Now I'm stuck with Sophon Cable :o

So I would be interested in your experiment with Astro,and would like to know what other satellites you can receive too.

Can get reasonable signal strenght on the KU transponder from Measat with my 8ft dish, however I guess it'll fade quickly with bad weather...

Indeed a 10ft dish seems recomended.

Standard equipment are the big mesh c-band dishes, with dual LNB's (one c-band, one KU)

The universial LNB's have to much noise/low gain.

Can't watch any channel though as all the free to air channels are on the C-band (which has a bigger footprint, so can't compare)

Astro takes up the whole KU transponder of Measat!

THe big size dishes are required because a lot of the free to air channels are on the C-band. And for most KU-band channels we're outside the footprint, so again a big dish for the extra db's gain needed :o

Dream is on Nagra1

UBC=Irdeto2

Astro=Mediaguard2
