There are multiple shot each and every day in Thailand so what's the point?

RIP to the deceased. Thankfully not a daily occurence on Samui. No comfort to his family. Sad news.

How do we know it;s not a daily occurrence? Stuff like this is rarely reported and trying to get stats on crime on Samui is almost impossible. I wonder how many gun deaths there have been in the last 12 months?

All the statistics here from shootings to bike accidents to levels of tourism are a load of cobblers. If anyone disagrees you are just showing your naivity.

You're right SE there's no way of accurately gleaning this info. I don't believe its a daily occurence and if it is please just don't tell me! :o

FYI this a local occurrence & is of relevance to Samui residents. Your off the cuff remarks are perhaps better suited in another thread, No need for trollish remarks here.

the point is that it happened in samui and i posted it on the samui forum. Not sure i understand what u r saying.

For example in your view if someone gets robbed on the island then there is no need to print it as it happens every day around the world.

just a bit of local news for the local residence.

there are 4 pints and they are dotted all over his body.

Whats the point. Man shot 4 times and he is dead. if it happened everyday on samui then the population would be much smaller.

Information will come. give me chance will find a link unless the local paper beats me. it might be in the national thai magazine will have to dragged myslelf out of bed to get a copy

A pointless one then. Off you go trawling through the Thai news articles and find out the shooting figures per year. When you've done your research post the results here in English.

I'm waiting....:whistling:

sometimes the thai national paper for thais prints more news about samui than the bangkok post. allot of the time is i reckon because the story might only be interesting for the thais.

You are probably fight there.

Incidentally, a bit off topic, but has anyone heard about four/five people being electricuted and killed by falling cables whilst wading through the water in Chaweng this week? Lots of Thais do but i doubt many foreigners.

No need for understanding the Thai language. It says enough if you just take a look at the pictures on the front page.

Its sad this thread is about shootings when out of it comes the real story which is a terrible tragedy and from which something really ought to be done about the overhead cables. Clearly they are bloody lethal. :o:realangry:

This way, you could think a Thai horror movie on TV is actually daily news.

Not a "daily occurrence", but certainly not rare, but what, who cares? Don't wonder!

Usually gambling debts, certain illegal substances pushed, there are small debt/rent collectors which go stray with the money collected, infiltration of peoples "play grounds" or "play mates", any "loss of face", Insult... many reasons to die here from lead poisoning

Columbia, Mexico, Iraq, Pakistan, LA maybe - anyone?

Sorry about the slip of the finger.

Sadly if the warning signs from the 2005 storms had been taken on board then the authorities might have done something about the appalling electric system here, be that turning it into a decent one or atleast improving it.

I heard that the main reason for not switching the electricity back on for such a long time was because

of the electrocution problem. Our Klongs were blocked and covered in a foot of water and we were happily (well not quite) wading

through them when we realised that our mains electricity ran through them. Fortunately the power was still off. :o

Thanks to Big C for the info update on the shooting. It is of relevance to those who live here.

Its a shocking and completely needless waste of life......really I'm at a loss on this one.:(

Yes - I heard about the electrocuted people outside/inside a Family Mart as well. The 'story' that I heard was that they were electrocuted because someone switched the power back on or started a generator! Will we ever know the truth? Sad though.:(

I was under the impression that the power cuts were ordered by the local government so as to avoid this kind of accident?

Ruomor that I heard was; Thursday, shortly before 1pm the elctric was turned back on in the Laem Din area (after being of for 1,5 days). A substation near the 7-11 (0r Family Mart) on the corner with Soi Reggae was still under water at the time and 5 people were electrocuted and died. They immediately turned the electric back of and it wasn't tuned back on until Friday late morning, when most of the water was gone.
