Absolute insanity..

I remember saying the same thing with the Wolves situation last Year, just who on Earth qualifies teh Prem to decide who a Team's first 11 is & why on Erath in that case, do Clubs have to name a 25 Man Squad or whatever it is if some Mushroom then decides you can only play certain combinations of Players together ??

Absolute insanity & an absolute farce if a Manager quits over this, however i make him right....

A stand must be made against the Imbeciles & if it means sacrificing his own Job, then fair to play to him completely..

I hope he's not forced into a corner over this because being the principled man he is he will go.

Robbing the premiership of one of if not the best young English manager in the game.

.......on second thoughts maybe its no bad thing.......! :P

In my opinion he's not even in teh Corner, he's done..

He is principled as you say & he WILL get punsihed..

So he's as good as gone i believe.

Football - the beautiful game ... often run by ugly pr@tts! But surely your headline is getting ahead of reality, Singhy? What's your source? That Independent article you quote doesn't say he is going to be disciplined; indeed it says that the powers that be have written a letter asking him to explain his behaviour - usually code for a low level wigging at the most. They've already painted themselves into an uncomfortable corner with the Wolves action and might as well brick themselves into it if they punish Holloway.

McCarthy deserved what he got though. Sometimes his frankness is refreshing but sometimes characters like him should learn when to keep their mouths shut and be a bit more subtle. I should know - I'm a Yorkshireman and many of us engage gob before brain and then wonder why people despise us!

It is a crazy situation especially this season as clubs have been forced to name a 25 man squad.Surely if they have to do this they should be allowed to name whatever team they wish.

In the World Cup you have to name a squad of 23 and up to you which team is picked.

And dont forget Blackpool almost got a draw.....what if they had won ?........would Gerard Houllier be fined for his team not trying then ?

On reflection...read after a beer or two and under extreme lubrication.....I reckon the FA will fudge it and let him off.....same as for 'Arry. Heads down and the tills still ringing don't forget.

Wolves fine was Suspended.

So is a suspended fine really punishment if you don't have to pay?

A suspended sentence/fine is a legal term for a judge's delaying of a defendant's serving of a sentence or paying a fine after they have been found guilty of something.

& add to the fact that a Man with the morals that we believe Holloway to have, what do you think ??

Being found guilty is being found guilty, however they shape up the punishment no & that's the issue in this isn't it ??

Singhy is right on this one. A letter was sent out....which presumably Blackpool have answered. If the FA say he's guilty he's gone....forget about punishments.....meaningless in this case.

In fact the wholecase is meaningless.....if he wants to play his U14 team it should be up to him.

Oh hang on there are rules against this I forgot....that's why there's a squad of 25 players. What a load of it!

Absolutely. This is a totally different position to what Wolves did last year. The FA have made teams select a squad of 25 and so that team will pick the best 25 players and from that they should be able to permutate the players in whatever way they wish.

Football is f**ked has been for awhile if he goes will be a sad day for the game we need characters like him in the game,he has a group of no name players playing out of there skins and some of the most entertaining attacking football i have seen in years and they want to tell him how to do his job.

They played excellent at villa and should of at least got a draw.

All I was questioning was the apparent assertion in your title that Holloway 'IS' going to get punished. I don't think anyone has made that assertion in the press so I just wondered whether you knew something we didn't. Maybe the use of the bold IS was just a typo - that's why blogs are a perfect tool for miscommunication and fallings out over innocuous comments. Look - let's drop the bloody thing shall we and just wait and see what happens.

<P class=first>Wolves manager Mick McCarthy thinks the Premier League will fine Ian Holloway after the Blackpool boss fielded a side with 10 changes at Aston Villa. Wolves received a suspended £25,000 fine when McCarthy did the same against Manchester United in December 2009.

"They won't escape it, how can they? If they do then the Premier League is absolutely toothless," McCarthy said.

I'm sorry, but why would i " drop " a Thread that i wanted people to discuss, just cos your having problems grasping the basic concept of it ??

Did you read the wwhole thing ??

It's arguble that Holloway's more of a &lt;deleted&gt; judging by what he said about Wolves & MMc..

Holloway put out a team designed to attack and win the game. McCarthy played a side designed to lose a game by his own admission.

What's he got to complain about?

Premier League 'toothless'....why? For reaching the same conclusion as the rest of us of course in that Holloway has done nothing wrong.

Why make such a comment then?....Unneccessary imo.

 At no point did he say he wanted to lose the game....unlike the moron McCarthy. Talk about smelling the coffee....this whole issue would never have raised its ugly head had the muppet simply claimed illness and tired players forced him into the changes. With a well practiced grimace of course.

Nah Holloway was frothing it up nicely before McCarthy put the boot in.

the FA made a rod for its own back with the 25 man ruling. you can't tell clubs to have a 'first team squad' and then fine them when they choose to use it to its maximum.

don't really buy the holloway as lovely bloke schtick either personally, think he's a bit of a self-promoting wannabe hiding behind this west country buffoon front.

I apologise Singhy. Indeed there are press reports that say that Holloway IS going to get sacked, so I was wrong to suggest you are getting ahead of the facts.

BTW I was not suggesting you drop the thread, only that we drop the tit for tat. Debating the speculation and the issue is undoubtedly an interesting topic for the football forums.

Definitely agree with second sentiment. I think he has 'blown his gaff' over this issue.

I don't think that the requirement to name a 25 man squad is the same thing as giving clubs a carte blanche to pick a deliberately understrength team with the expectation of losing, particularly if the club then goes and throws it that in the face of the League, a la McCarthy. The League were right to punish McCarthy - the last thing the League wants from a spectacle viewpoint (= commercial self-interest viewpoint) is a series of no-contest games between top and bottom clubs. The issue is parallel to the 'Team Orders' issue in Formula 1 - sport survives as a paying proposition on unfettered competition.

I expect that Holloway will be able to convince the EPL that he did not pick a team with the object of not competing (I saw it on TV - good game - QED) and he will not be punished - rightly so, we all agree that here*. The pratt needs to shut his gob though - he's digging a hole for himself and his self-promotion will be hiss downfall if he's not careful.

Top brass pillocks do not like to be publicly challenged and they will ultimately seek their revenge on Holloway (for his 'I will resign' brinkmanship), but not on this issue would be my guess.

Edit * meant - we all agree hat he should not be punished (I think ..dangerous assertion)

I don't see it as a case of deliberately picking an understrength team, i see it as a case of deliberately picking your strongest team against opposition that you have a chance against, and in other games, rotating.

Fact is, all teams rotate at sometime and for their own reasons. Managers should have the right to decide which players take to the field. Any interference in this decision making is a nonsense in my view.

Another fact is, anyone who saw the United v Wolves game will remember that it was much closer than the scoreline suggested, and that if a few balls had gone their way, they could have got something. What would the FA done if they had?

They'll also remember that the Wolves game following that game, was indeed won by Wolves. Would they of won it had those same players been playing a few days earlier? Possibly not. Good management decision in my book.

Pool fined by Premier League

Club have 14 days to decide whether to appeal against penalty

Blackpool have confirmed that they have been fined £25,000 by the Premier League for fielding a weakened team against Aston Villa on 10th November.

The disciplinary action has been taken as it is deemed that manager Ian Holloway breached Premier League rules B.13 and E.20 by making 10 changes to his line-up.

A ruling board is said to have considered the team fielded by Holloway against West Ham on 13th November and in following matches when making the decision.

Full story:- http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6704855,00.html

Absolutely ridiculous decision but will Holloway quit?
