Another Death In The Iraq War

Fck. Can't think of anybody.

Boon, thaibebop - Can you?

Nope. I've seen plenty of people get the snot kicked out of them though.

Chownah-

I agree with you. I can see both sides, but I have always felt that it is unfair to disarm someone who just wants to protect their family. Yet, I have met gun nuts who to me are cowards. They are just hiding behind their guns. Maybe I'm out of date here, but if you're gonna kill man, look him in the eye. Know what it is you do when you kill. I sometimes think these gun nuts haven't firgured that out yet.

For people who cannot handle the responsibility of owning a lethal weapon, their families are surely safer if there are no guns in the house. This is where the problem lies IMO. Many human beings are unfit to handle the responsibility of owning, storing and using a lethal weapon, no matter what their excuse for doing so is.

In Sweden, guns are still a non-issue, because the vast majority do not see it as a natural liberty to be allowed to kill other people instantly.

Apart from that, guns are for lazy people. If you are really going to kill somebody, you should at least be prepared to give it some time and effort, e.g. using a cheese slizer.

Or perhaps plastic-shredding machines like Saddam used on his victims? :o

Insight: I've never been witness to someone shot in a streetfight. Seems like today, driveby shootings are the 'in' thing... :D

This leads to a whole new problem. How do you tell who has the responsibility to own a firearm and who doesn't? It's the same with anything that people need to learn to do. Like a car, if you don't know how to drive you could kill somebody, so you must learn. I don't know about other countries but America doesn't teach people about guns,a nd then let's people buy them anyway, this is a huge mistake. I feel that the only people who should own a gun are people who have been educated about them.

I think we agree about something, then.

With education and some means of controlling/educating people about usage, and also restricting what type of gun you can buy (for example, I dont see how somebody could successfully argue they really need a fully automatic weapon or a rocket launcher for self-defense - a regular handgun should be more than enough).

Implement a license (different training for different gun types, just like flight certificates or driver's licenses) - and if you felt you needed to buy a gun, you would have to pay for training by a qualified and experienced instructor, and then be tested on proper usage and maintenance skills as well as knowledge of applicable regulations, and if possible a psychological evaluation of your personality type should be carried out.

After having aqcuired your license, if you were found guilty of abusing the gun laws, your right to have a gun would be revoked, the exact length of the penalty relative to the offense you were found guilty of.

Hard-to-operate guns, weapons such as heavy-duty machine guns, rocket launchers and such, should be off limits to everybody but military personnel and police task forces.

Etc. :o

Yes!

We won't let anyone operate heavy equipment with out training and license, or for that matter smaller dangerous equipment. So, why do we let idiots buy guns without finding out first that they are idiots?
