Taliban leader plotting 'large-scale' attack arrested in southern Afghanistan

KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- A Taliban leader who was involved in preparing an upcoming large-scale attack was arrested in southern Afghanistan on Monday, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Wednesday.

ISAF said the Taliban leader, whose identity was not release, was among three suspected insurgents arrested during a joint security operation in the Nawah-ye Barakzai district of Helmand Province on Monday.

The alliance alleged that the targeted individual had recently returned from Pakistan and was attempting to provide leadership to Taliban insurgents in Nawah after security forces detained the previous district leader in October.

"The detained individual was directly involved in planning attacks against Afghan and coalition security members and facilitating improvised explosive device materials," ISAF said in a statement. "The Taliban leader also maintained close ties to other Taliban leaders."

According to the force, the Taliban leader posed an immediate threat because he was believed to have been involved in the planning of an upcoming 'large-scale' attack. The force did not immediately provide details of the plot and did not indicate the plot had been disrupted as a result of the arrest.

ISAF said the joint team also destroyed several weapons during the search of the buildings where the suspected Taliban insurgents were arrested. "The joint security team conducted the operation in the hours of darkness to minimize the risk to local citizens," ISAF added.

Coalition casualties in Afghanistan have been rising sharply this year, with around 90 fatalities in July alone, making it the deadliest month for U.S. forces since the war began on October 7, 2001 in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The council of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) eventually declared that the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people from scores of countries, was considered an attack on all NATO nations. The NATO-backed war aims to defeat the Taliban and other insurgent groups in the country.

So far this year, more than 650 coalition service members have been killed in action. Most of them were American and died in Afghanistan's war-torn southern region. In 2009, the total death toll stood at 521.

On Tuesday, two NATO service members were killed as a result of two separate attacks in Afghanistan. In eastern Afghanistan, one service member died as a result of an insurgent attack while another died in southern Afghanistan as a result of an improvised explosive device attack.

Alleged? If they don't have enough evidence - video, eye-witnesses, forensic, whatever - they had better release this poor fellow. If isn't an evil Taliban/terrorist now, he certainly will be after being falsely accused!!!!!!

This is wonderful news. So, a mere 9 years after the invasion, the war is won already? Can you imagine some wars in the past used to last for decades....

The funny thing, of course, being the fact that less and less Americans believe the Official Government Story that Osama Bin Laden was behind the attacks on 9/11, the original excuse for invading Afghanistan in the first place, because that nasty Bin Laden was hiding in a cave. Did anybody see any video footage of Bin Laden since then?

Where do you get this stuff?

If we fought the war without kids gloves it would have ended before Christmas 2001. There'd be about 20 million dead, but you might be happy because it wouldn't last so long or cost so much money.

This stuff comes from http://www.911truth.org/ and many more sites who question the Governments Explanation.

Especially the free fall of building 7 is flabbergasting :

So if Building 7 was blown up, it is also extremely likely that the Twin Towers had some help to fall to ruble, and that makes the story that Bin Laden was behind it all laughable.

=====

Kid Gloves? The USA dumped more explosives on Vietnam than during the whole of WWII was used, so brute force doesn't win wars. Killing 20 million Afghans might be an option for mentally challenged people but not even the USA government is so crazy.

It is more likely that they prefer to drag out this conflict for decades to come, and keep a slow but steady flow of filled body bags back to the Homeland to keep the sheeple aware that their Government continues to sacrifice its young people in order to protect the same.
