How Long Have You Been In Thailand

Bluecat...head west a few thousand miles from Tutsiland and you will find Tutsibolivia...I lived in Tutsicochabamba...

Bunch of savages...the women have sex with their bras on...

The handle is adaptable...in one incarnation I was Dustin Hoffman in the famous movie...then there is the famous sweet in the US (Tutsi-roll). Never was a victim or perpetrator of genocide (no disrespect to the victims).

Don't know what I was thinking about when I chose Tutsiwarrior...but it rolls quite nicely off the tongue...

If you like it here, it is quite a well chosen name.

Thai and Tutsis are similar in some ways: proud of themselves, happy to be Tutsis (Thai), suspicious of other cultures,...

But,..., the best friends you can have when you know them, they know you, you trust them, they trust you,...

we weren't talking about the merits of living in Thailand, that don't matter to me much...I just want to get a job and ship out 'cause I'm broke...never expected to be here that long. Sounds like the discussion is converging with other threads regarding wanting to stay in Thailand.

In the short time that I have been here I can spot Toxin for what he is...a smiling , corrupt demogogue in line with others that I have observed in 5 years of living in SE Asia. Don't know nothing about arrogant Thais as all the people that I am in contact with are poor farmers and nice folks. Any white man foolish enough to have a local as a boss get what he deserves...expat terms and conditions always required with a Thai speaking buffer between bosses, landlords and etc. Anything else is a recipie for discomfort. Usually the expat employer provides this arrangement or there would be no expat presence here other than tourists and dumb adventurists.

The present anti-falang inclination of the present government will have its' effect and Toxin and his gang will have to go as his policies will impact other powerful and corrupt Thai businessmen. No matter...Mr moonface and his associates will be laughing all the way to the bank...

someone said that Thailand had good, cheap cheeseburgers and pizza and I believed her. Now we don't have sex no more and I worry as the house is in her name.

(Plachon, Chonabot and Dr PP don't laugh...I had the best intentions...)

A breath of fresh air , now wheres Mr Vietnam and Membrane vs Butterfly?

Going through my passport I see I have lived in Thailand on and off for 4 years over the last 20.

I Do IT and Export and I live in Bang Na

So where are the decent bars in Bang Na ???????

(See the Farang Pub thread on this topic)

I first came to LOS in 1978, while working in Iran (under the Shah).

Been coming back ever since, for many years to Phuket for the SCUBA diving and settled in Pattaya when I ran out of puff.

Married, 6-year-old daughter, working on New Bangkok Airport and looking for decent bars in Bang Phlii / Bang Na.

Came to Thailand for the first time in 1970 on an R&R from Vietnam, where I had been busy earning my CIB. Later joined USAF where I finished my twenty years and retired. Then moved to Italy where I owned the first ISP and later published two Newspapers along with being the exclusive Agent for Omnitel (Cellular). A company covering all the cellular needs of the U.S. personnel there (85,000). I was proud to have contracted the entire 6th Fleet for them. Came to Thailand by chance, while en-route home from a trip to Australia in 1998. Met Songsri during those four days in Thailand after which she came to visit me in Italy for 6 months. Sold everything and all my holding and came to Thailand in 1999 where we married. We now have a 4 year old daughter a two year old son and another due in July. Hi to everybody,

I am from Europe, came first to Malaysia with my Chinese girl friend, marriage did not work out in 1972, married 1976 a Japanese woman, living in Tokyo since 1981, visiting Thailand frequently since over 30 years.

Hope to save more money and to retire in Pattaya (Jomtien) within the coming years. Now 52 years old, I was working in Europe with a travel agency, later on up to now with a trade related government office of my own country in Tokyo, Japan.

Hi Everyone,

We've been living here for a year and a half now. My wife is Thai/Chinese and I'm originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL USA. I first came to Thailand in 1999 to visit my girlfriend (now my wife) for three months. I returned again in 2000 for three and a half months on a tourist visa as I had done the first time. We were married here in May of 2001 and also in the USA in June of that year. We lived in Lauderdale for about 15 months before moving here permanently in 02'. I'm an English Conversation Teacher just finishing up my first year at a Thai Government secondary school. My wife works at home for our family's business. I have travelled to all the major regions except the Issan. Most of my family here lives in the South where my wife and in-laws are from. Bangkok is convenient but stressful at times with the chaotic traffic/air pollution plus the faster paced lifestyle that many people here lead. In other provinces folks are generally much more laid back and less stressed out.

Thanks Gentleman for starting this interesting forum! I can see that many of us on Thaivisa.com have been living here for quite some time running businesses, etc. Since half my family here is Chinese, I've been exposed to traditions from both sides. Our lifestyle here is much easier on us than it was in South Florida. It's also easier to raise/support children too. Chok dee everyone!

Hi all, I've been in Thailand for just over 1 year now. I'm a Brit and worked for about 15 years as a rocket scientist! I worked in the UK, Belgium, France & Spain where I designed communications and scientific satellites for Aerospatial, European Space Agency etc. I was married for about 20 years and with 3 young children. Last few years with my British wife were not a good time and we separated amicably.

Now I live in Bangkok and Phuket with my Thai girlfriend, and we both go back to the UK for 1 week each month so I can visit my kids and so she can shop in Harrods :o We (she) own some land in Phuket where we are going to build apartments. We are looking for more land to build our house in Phuket very soon!

I don't have any business in Thailand. I have a 1-man UK business which supplies ringtones, logos and rude text messages to mobile phones. Makes about 100,000 baht every day, so I'm a happy guy. Most of it seems to go on looking after my ex-wife and kids :D

Hi to everyone on this forum :D

I first came to Thailand 6 years agowhen i was 40,meet my wife a teacher in CM 5 years ago and married her 4 years ago. Sold my house and everything else in Vancouver over a year ago when my company offered a buyout and moved to CM for good. I am not working and hopefully will never have to as i am one lazy bastard! Live in Mae rim just outside CM which is a pretty good place close enough to CM though i find myself going there less and less. Life is not perfect in Thailand but better then the constant cold rain in Van and the low cost of living is great!

Came to Thailand for the first time in 1992 and have returned intermittently, living in Sri Lanka, Viet Nam and Cambodia. Retired two years ago and decided on Phuket, because Sri Lanka remains a no go.

Cheers.........kandt :o

First visited LOS in 1983.

Left the UK for LOS in 1985.

Apart from 2 years around 1990 when I was in Malaysia that makes 17 years I suppose.

Married for 6 years and do not regret it.

I only wish I had come here sooner!! :o

Dr Patpong sir, on looking through past threads, it has come to my attention that you have not stated how long you have been in this fine country. Even after many enquiries from YOUR MEMBERS, you still have not been forthwith with an answer - please let us know, regards the gentleman.

You are not my favourite cat anymore, BC :o

Most of us would DIE to be as young as you.

I mean, we envy you, sometimes,... :D:D
