The accident happened around 12.40 p.m. local time on Saturday in Daqiao Township of Shiping County, in the country's Yunnan Province. The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the bus was en-route to Pu'er City from Kaiyuan City. The accident happened just before a sharp turn on a mountain road in rainy and foggy weather when the vehicle was trying to avoid an oncoming truck, causing the bus to veer off the road and overturn into a ravine. Five passengers died at the scene and five died of injuries later at a local hospital, a police spokesman told Xinhua. He said 24 people with various injuries were transported to three different hospitals in the area. Only one passenger was able to escape unharmed from the accident, which involved a bus owned by the Honghe Transport Group. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2010-11-29
