Jet Ski gang assaults tourists last January.

The same gang is still there extorting foreigners?

I can assume the extortionists/assailants were charged, tried and jailed.

They all seem to operate with impunity.

They have repeatedly assaulted tourists, threatened them with death, pulled sticks, poles and even knives on them, and not to mention the scam itself. Not one of them is charged with anything.

It shows you who is running things here. Whoever the gang boss is (and I think everyone already knows who that is), is untouchable and always has been.

Today two of the scammers who usually work opposite mikes shopping were working opposite planet hollywood today that had a couple of suckers out on jet skis's but i'm not sure if they got stung.

Also there is a guy that has trouble walking has a motor bike with side car near he is always opposite Royal Garden blocking the footpath heis very bad news and is always throwing orders around not many days go by where his team don't have couple of victims at the end of the day.

The big boss does not show his face much but it is very easy to who he controls and they have teams all down the beach.

Would the guy on the run who controls Chonburi have any family members in positions of power in Chonburi? Just asking!

The harder question would be does he have any family members who are NOT in positions of power!

Jet ski scammers and City Hall

Pattaya’s City Hall response to curbing the jet ski scammers seriously damaging Pattaya’s already seriously dented image reminds me very much of the architect’s remarks.

It has been reported that some jet ski scammers can earn up to 300,000 baht a week, so probably a little of that is spread around to the powers that be to keep them in business. The bull about, ‘There are no laws covering jet ski operators’ is just that. Why can’t City Hall ban and fine any jet ski operators who scam tourists and move police who aid and abet them to inactive post in Outer Mongolia or a prison here in wonderful Thailand? As your article points out, the scam has been going on for years, time to do something positive about it City Hall instead of the usual beating around the bush!

Best wishes to your readers,

RW

Pattaya officials finally move against jet ski vendors

Pattaya officials have finally moved against the city’s many jet ski scam artists, ordering every vendor working the area’s beaches to register at city hall by Aug. 10 or be classified a criminal operator.

At yet another meeting Aug. 3 on the scandal that has besmirched the city’s image internationally for more than a year, officials pounded fists on tables and professed outrage at the seemingly endless string of incidents involving extortion and physical intimidation of tourists by jet ski touts plaguing Pattaya, Jomtien and Naklua beaches.

Just two little quotes from the attached Pattaya Mail article:

"One new suggestion, however, was to create a centralized rental desk where tourists would purchase coupons covering rental of any jet ski as well as insurance cover for any damage they might cause."

"Chawalit added he believes public officials have only uncovered the tip of the iceberg and that many deeper problems have yet to be addressed. He advocated a team of negotiators be created to mediate vendor-customer disputes."

The first quote fills one with hope that something might actually be going to happen. The second quote right at the end of the article is more worrying "a team of negotiators to mediate disputes" ?? Why should a team of negotiators be necessary if a rental desk is set up and all jet-skis are insured so customers are protected. What's to negotiate?

simple solution

each jetski must have a yearly insurance policy

each operator must have a permit or licence to operate on the beach

each jetski must be registered by the permit holder along with the insurance document before it is allowed on the beach

creation of zones where jetski hire is allowed

each zone has a notice board explaining to customers that the jetskis are insured and a phone number in city hall if there is a dispute

any operator caught trying to scam customers will have their licence revoked and their jetski's banned from the beach

simple

Pattaya: Tourists beaten up by jet ski vendors. Pattaya Mail, Feb. 2010.

Another tourist beaten by rough jet ski vendors after city promised to clean up

Boonlua Chatree

Government officials in Phuket may have clamped down on renegade jet ski operators after being embarrassed worldwide by a British television series, but in Pattaya scammers are still trying to extort money from tourists for alleged damage and beating them up when the victims refuse to pay.

Another case of a tourist beaten by jet ski operators. Will the city and/or police follow their promises and do anything about this situation?

Such appeared to be the case Feb. 19 when David Marshall, 62, was severely beaten by a group of Pattaya Beach jet ski operators after he and three friends returned the vehicles near Soi 13 and were told they had damaged them during their one-hour ride.

From Pattaya Mail, Feb 2010,

Marshall told police he and his friends had rented the water craft for 1,400 baht for an hour. When they returned, the vendor said the flat, bottom part of the jet ski had been scratched and demanded payment for damages. Marshall insisted he didn't cause the damage and the argument turned violent.
Two other Thais joined in the fight, pummeling the elderly man in the face and breaking one tooth.

Marshall was taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. His friends received only minor injuries.

The assault was the second in a week
allegedly perpetrated by Pattaya jet ski vendors. On Feb. 13 a
50-year-old Norwegian man was bloodied by jet ski vendors near Soi 10
after the tourist confronted them for allegedly stealing nearly 10,000 baht while he was riding one of their water craft.

.......

Ironically, Pattaya'
s mayor and city leaders also pledged at the time new regulations would be put in place
in Pattaya to clean up the jet ski industry here. However, apparently nothing has been done since the initial press conference.

Just one slight amendment to that:

any operator trying to scam customers will have their licence revoked and their jetskis DESTROYED.

We all know that a ban would have no effect at all as no-one enforces anything here.

Just been looking through Stridermans excellent Jet Ski thread in the secrets sand box.

Seems just about all the jet skis carry a 9 figure number on them.

Now as we are told that these Skis are Unlicensed, Unregistered, Uninsured and Unregulated if so then what is this number????

Some of the operators are also kind enough to supply phone numbers.

Give em a call if you want to rent 1.

Or maybe just have a chat with them in a safe environment. Anomalously and on the end of a phone.

Another thing that has to be watched until insurance is introduced is that these scammers could possibly be causing accidents by having a foreign person hired to deliberately crash. especially the lot between Mikes shopping and Walking st.

There is enough proof already that they hire Russians , indians and others to negotiate with the scams and at the moment the negotiators are not working the beach but they could be invlolved in the back ground and personally I have witnessed some accidents that are questionable.
